The upcoming circus that is coming to New York just got a new trapeez act when President Obama made this statement in defense of his decision to try Khaled Sheikh Mohammed and his cohorts in a federal court. In Asia, Obama has now stated that:
"those offended by the legal privileges given to Mohammed by virtue of getting a civilian trial rather than a military tribunal won't find it offensive at all when he's convicted and when the death penalty is applied to him."
Remember during the Charles Manson trial when President Nixon declared him guilty?
"That's right!"
Obama (a lawyer) quickly added that he wasn't prejudging Mohammed's guilt. "I'm not going to be in that courtroom," he said. "That's the job of the prosecutors, the judge and the jury."
"That's right!"
Nevertheless, the Mohammed et al lawyers now have another issue that they can throw out before the trial even begins.
"You see, your honor, even the President has stated that our clients are guilty. Clearly, they cannot receive a fair trial anywhere in the US. We move that all charges be dismissed.
"Motion granted."
"Ridiculous", you say. You better hope this case isn't tried by some judge that Obama has appointed to the bench (or Carter or Clinton, for that matter).
"That's right!"
It's too bad Nixon is dead. He could have given Obama some good advice about popping off about pending trials.
"That's right!"
The notion that all charges will be dropped and that KSM et all will be set free onto the streets of New York is patently absurd. If they were acquitted in any way, they'd be charged anew and arrested the very next minute, right in the court room, never going anywhere. Even conservative commentators have admitted as much, at least the ones with some common sense.
ReplyDeletePS: Whoops wrong reply to wrong post.
ReplyDeleteAS to KSM, I am upste about that. I agree, it is absurd, but I have too much experience in our court system not to fear some leftie judge.
After all, KSM has been held without trial for some 5 years, has been waterboarded, and now Obama makes a slip of the tongue.
This is why KSM should be before a military tribunal that should have been conducted a long time ago.
