Last night, Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) held a town hall meeting in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. As you can see from the video clips, it got pretty heated, and Frank, as he is noted for, gave it right back to those who disagreed with him. While I respect Frank's ability to go toe to toe with his adversaries, he should remember that these are his constituents who he is insulting. And he did insult them.
It is clear that some in the audience had pictures of Obama with a Hitlerian mustache, which Frank referred to. Personally, I would not use such a caricature. Frank also took exception to the woman's use of the term ,"Nazi health care plan". That may also be over the top, but a lot of people, including me, are seeing a slippery slope that the health care bill's, "end of life" provisions may lead to, and yes, there are parallels with the Nazi program of euthanasia that many fear this could eventually lead to. (You say "impossible in America"? Explain partial-birth abortion to me.)
But the point I want to make here is that Frank's attitude is one of contempt for those common folks who disagree with his ideology. He is an arrogant man-much like British MP and Pro-Palestinian activist George Galloway, who comes to a speech ready and eager to do battle with his opponents.
Frank, however, is not the only Democrat who is guilty of this. We have Harry Reid referring to town hall attendees as "evil-mongers". Nancy Pelosi says they are "un-American". And so it goes. The basic fact is that we have a government in power that wants to control every aspect of our lives. Health care is only one aspect. The banks and the auto-industry are others. What is next? I'll tell you what is next. The union card check system that will force thousands of workers into unions and the "Fairness Doctrine" that will shut down conservative talk radio are next.
And how does this government look at those of us who are not willing to go along with their program? We are un-American. We are "evil-mongers". We are "living on another planet" in the words of Barney Frank. All because we voice our dissent.
They have nothing but contempt for us.
To Representative Frank I want to say what planet we live on. On our planet, we don't allow our lovers to operate a bordello from our own residence-as Frank did. On our planet, we don't have love relationships with top executives of agencies that we are regulating-as Frank did. On our planet, we don't force financial institutions to loan money to folks incapable of paying it back and then set ourselves up as the fixers when the system collapses-as Frank did.
Perhaps more than any other person in the US, Barney Frank bears responsibility for the financial mess we find ourselves in. And yet, he has the gall to go to a town hall meeting and insult his constituents because they dare to disagree.
This government is against us.
Gary, anyone who would make Obama look like Hitler loses all credibility. I doubt that most Americans know how the NSDAP worked, nor how socialism as practiced in Europe works, any comparising is so ridiculous, I can't stand so much stupidity coming out of peoples mouths.
ReplyDeleteI know enough cases though where I feel the government needs to do something, mine icluded. It's easy to be judgemental when you are sitting pretty with your health insurance, not so easy when you lose it because of divorce, loss of a job or other reasons.
Ingrid,
ReplyDeleteI agree that the Hitler/Obama comparisons don't help. When I bring up how the Nazis launched a program to do away with people who were "useless eaters" (hundreds of people were killed in the Hupfla in Erlangen),Ia try to describe it as a slippery slope that we can done pretty easily if we start witholding advanced medical care and opeartions from the elderly.
Yes, we can change some things in health insurance, like allowing insurance companies to do business across state lines for competition and tort reform, which the Dems won't do. But to throw the whole thing out and start over is crazy. The govt can't run anything right.
