Let's Play, "Name That City!"

The below pictures were taken in which city?

That's the mayor (on the left)

I'm not sure when this photo was taken. Since it is black and white, possibly about ten years ago.

This is some sort of "pride" parade, but I can't quite figure out what they are proud about.

Some of the local yokals. Hey! For you University of California at Santa Cruz students (and professors), there's a clue in the background.

a Calcutta, India
b Karachi, Pakistan
c Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia
d Kabul, Afghanistan
e Baghdad, Iraq
f Lagos, Nigeria
g San Francisco, California

If you guessed "g", you are a winner! If you live in "g", you are a loser!

  1. I don't live in SF itself, but across the bay in Berkeley, as you know. I've only lived here for a little over a year. The SF Bay Area as a whole is my adopted home, for now at least. That being so, I have a very simple solution for you: if you don't like it, then don't come here and shut up.

Harsh, I know, but it's like when someone picks on your little brother or sister. You can pick on them all you want (there are plenty of things I don't like about SF/Berkeley and am critical of), but when someone else does who's not a member of your family, you stick up for them. So there you have it.

  2. It used to be such a lovely city. What happened?

  3. Findalis,

    The pictures illustrate what happened.

  4. Bryan,

Love it or leave it, eh?

Question: Do you have any sense of humor whatsoever? It seems to me that humor is in short supply on the left.

Final point: Just exercising my freedom of speech and expression-remember?

  5. Of course I have a sense of humor. I think some of your joke posts are funny. And I make fun of SF myself. But you're an outsider, so it's different.

And humor is lacking on the left? Come on, ever heard of the Daily Show or the Colbert Report? Just two major examples for you.

  6. Bryan,

I am an outsider so it's different? Are you aware that LA and SF have been making fun of each other for many, many decades (all my life and before)?

As for Colbert and Stewart, I never watch them, so I can't judge if they are funny. I am amazed, however, at how many people seem to form their political opinions from watching these two.

  7. Gary, I used to live in San Francisco, and I lived close to it for over 30 years. I was wondering a little about your comments, but I know that there has been competition going on between LA and SF as long as I remember.
When I visited SF a few weeks ago, I was taken in again, because it is a beautiful city and doesn't deserve all that bashing. I was in Paris, Cordoba, Granada and Seville last year, which also have beautiful areas, and not so good ones. I've been to many big cities in the world, all of them are and always have been full of problems. For me it's still true that "I left my heart in San Francisco". As for LA, what and where is it anyway? Now that's funny.

  8. Ingrid,

It was all in humor. Actually, I have written about SF in harsher terms-especially when they had the murder of a man and his son by an illegal alien gang member who had been arrested but never reported to ICE. That was sheer criminal behavior in my view.

AS for LA, where I was born and raised, I don't have much good to say either.
