Congressional Black Caucus Goes to Cuba

"Why do I gotta meet those yahoos from the US? I got better things to do. Give 'em a few autographed cigars and tell'em to come back tomorrow."


This week, members of the Congressional Black Caucus traveled to Cuba where they kissed the ring of dictator Fidel Castro. Predictably, they are now calling for an end to the US embargo. You won't believe the comments they came back and made.

Rep Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) stated, "For the past 50 years, the United States has been swimming in the Caribbean Sea of delusion," and described the United States as "the isolated nation" compared to those sophisticated European countries which have diplomatic ties with Havana. (Yes, and don't forget all those European tourists who flock to Cuba to take advantage of the teenage prostitutes.)

"This is the dawning of a new day," said Rep. Bobby Rush, (D-IL) (a former Black Panther who pointedly injected race into the controversy swarming around the Blagoyevich-appointed Illinois Senator Roland "Trailblazer" Burris. "Fifty years of foolishness is over. It's time for the children to sit in the corner and the adults to take over."

and this:

".....So I know foolhardy approaches and asinine labels when I see them," said Rep. Rush. "American people need to be told the truth and they have been lied to for too long about the threat from Cuba." (I wish somebody would tell me the truth about the threat from Illinois. As for Rush, I'm glad his statements were reduced to writing because no one can understand what the hell he says.)

Rep. Laura Richardson, (D-Ca), was one of those who actually met with The Great Leader. She reported that Castro was alert and "looked directly into our eyes, quite aware of what was happening".

I wonder if Castro was alert enough to ask Richardson if she had paid off on all those foreclosed homes she left behind in California when she was elected to Congress (see my posting on Richardson dated August 19, 2008 entitled, "Deadbeat Congresswoman-Meet Laura Richardson").

Then there was Barbara Lee, (D-CA) who was the only member of Congress to vote against a resolution authorizing force after 9-11. She described Castro as "engaging and energetic (as any dictator should be when he orders the imprisonment of dissidents).

On Tuesday, the Cuban government issued a press release in which Castro said that one of the members of the delegation told him that the United States should "apologize" to Cuba. Castro also reportedly stated that another member of the delegation told him that despite the recent election of President Obama, American society is still "racist." (All of the delegation members have subsequently denied making the above statements.)

So welcome home, Members of Congress. As you are crossing the Caribbean, you might keep an eye out for Cynthia McKinney trying to get back to the US in her boat, "The Leakin Lena", which had a mishap while trying to deliver God knows what to the Gazans while they fighting the Israelis. I figure if the boat is still afloat, she should be somewhere in the Caribbean about now. Hopefully, she will land in Cuba-and stay there.
