Germany holds New Years Eve celebrations amid tight security. In Cologne, police are trying to prevent a repeat of last year's mass sexual assault upon hundreds of women by immigrants.
Meanwhile Berliners are subjected to the same restrictions.
It's too late for all that in Istanbul where at least one gunman has opened up on a nightclub with what I assume was an automatic weapon. At this point 35 are counted dead and 40 wounded. At this point we don't know if it was ISIS or Kurdish separatists. This attack is still on-going since the shooter is still alive and inside the nightclub.

Free Speech at Drexel
Maybe he was just talking about white dragons.
Drexel University in Philadelphia (home of the Dragons) is going through a lot of embarrassment because of what what one its professors tweeted during the Christmas season. He wished for a "white genocide".
http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8583
As Drexel points out, what George Ciccariello-Maher tweeted was free speech and over his own social media. Hopefully, they extend the same tolerance for conservative students who criticize Black Lives Matter, illegal immigration, abortion, or Islamic extremism. As I have pointed out before, were a university to fire a teacher for what this man said, who is to say UC Irvine wouldn't fire me for saying that CAIR is a subversive organization or that Islam is not a religion of peace etc. I said all of those things and never heard a peep from UCI in 18 years, and that is to their credit. They actually chose to ignore me most of the time. Of course, I never advocated genocide against anybody.
Drexel can declare this case closed if they wish, but they have suffered a lot of painful national exposure over this ridiculous comment by one of its professors (who happens to be white). What they cannot ignore is that universities now have to confront the fact that they are infested with thousands of left-wing misfits and oddballs, and that the public is finally well aware of the intellectual rot that exists in academia. What will eventually follow is a loss of revenue, from public sources, from donors, and from reduced enrollment (e.g. University of Missouri). Infamy always has its consequences.

Is Obama Preparing the Biggest Stab in the Back of All Against Israel?
Hat tip The Economic Collapse and Vlad Tepes
On January 15, five days before the Obama administration ends, 70 nations are meeting in Paris to discuss the future of a Palestinian state. They won't have much time to act, but the below article by Michael Snyder speculates that enormous damage could be done if they could bring the issue of Palestinian statehood to a UN vote vote before Trump takes office.
http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/circle-january-15th-70-nations-will-gather-in-paris-to-discuss-the-creation-of-a-palestinian-state
There are no words to describe the petulance with which Obama and John Kerry are treating the final weeks in office. While Obama passes executive order after executive order, which Trump will have to rescind, Kerry is working like a beaver to undermine Israel on Obama's behalf. make no mistake: These childish acts will all be a part of the negative legacy of both men.
As for the French, who are hoisting this debacle, as well as the Europeans in general, they should be ashamed. Not realizing that Israel's enemies are their enemies, in spite of the murderous attacks taking place around the continent and the thousands of Jews who are being forced to emigrate, they take yet one more step to discredit and undermine the very existence of the Jewish state.
Obama, Kerry, and the current leadership of Europe seem to believe that by appeasing Israel's enemies and the Arab/Muslim world in general, they can buy peace and friendship. They are reminiscent of Neville Chamberlain. They mask their treachery behind platitudes of "true friendship" and "friends speaking truth to friends", but it all a lie. They are deathly afraid of the Arab/Muslim world and the terror attacks that will continue no matter what they do or do not do. If only they could bring themselves to realize that simple fact.
As for Obama himself, I believe there is more than just naivete at work. I suspect this man is an anti-Semite. I have never claimed that is a Muslim, but, at the least, he does view Islam through a very sympathetic lens, and I think at least some of his anti-Semitism has been inherited from his Muslim friends and associates. He knows darn well that Jew hatred is part and parcel of the teachings handed down by the Prophet Mohammad and what is written down in the Koran. If he could not bring about a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians, he can at least lay the groundwork for Israel's eventual demise.
What sorry excuses for leaders the Western leaders have at this moment. Hopefully, Donald Trump will begin to reverse that trend.

Professor Watch List Off to a Great Start
Hat tip Turning Point USA and The College Fix
-"DMV?"
-"No, we're waiting to get on the "Professor Watch List."
Turning Point USA is a new site devoted to (among other things) setting up a "professor watch list" devoted to alerting students which professors on their campus will be using their podiums as soap boxes for leftist viewpoints. It is off to such a great start that over 1200 liberal professors have asked to be put on the list as a sign of solidarity (there's that word again) with those already on the list.
http://www.thecollegefix.com/post/30544/
I have enthusiastically linked TPUSA on my site, but I must say that in my view, they don't have enough gigabytes to list every deserving professor who should be on the list. There are just too many of them. So I would tell these 1,200 boobs to get in line.

Modern Language Association, Middle East Studies and Israel
Hat tip Daily Caller and Campus Watch
James Gelvin, UCLA-Dr Doom
A.J. Caschetta has written an article appearing in Daily Caller and Campus Watch decrying the Modern Language Association (a collection of university language/composition professors) and their opposition to Israel, a topic that has nothing to do with language or composition. While properly taking the MLA to account, Caschetta also points out that the supposed experts in the field of Middle East studies have done little better in advancing serious scholarship in the area of regional study and Islamist terrorism.
http://dailycaller.com/2016/12/29/the-mla-vs-israel/
The fact is that most Middle East studies departments in our universities are devoted to ethnocentric glorification of the Arab world, terrorist apologia, as well as bashing of Israel and the West in general. The agenda is clear: The problems of the Middle East are not the failures of the Arabs (other than dictatorships which are propped up by the West) rather they are the doing of the West and Israel.
The list is endless, from Georgetown's John Esposito and his Alwaleed Center of Christian-Muslim Understanding, to Juan Ricardo Cole at the University of Michigan to UCLA's Center for Near Eastern Studies, which has featured such "luminaries and thinkers" as James Gelvin and Gabriel (The Kissing Bandit) Piterberg, all of whom are anti-Israel activists.
John Richard Cole, aka Juan Ricardo Cole
Gabriel Piterberg
In addition, many of these so-called departments exist largely due to funding from Saudi Arabia. The Alwaleed Center is a prime example. Georgetown gladly accepted what Mayor Rudy Giuliani turned down, multi millions of dollars from Prince Alwaleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia. A glance at their web page gives you an idea of their agenda.
John Esposito
Of course no article on Middle East propaganda would be complete without UC Berkeley's Hatem Bazian, a genuine multi-tasker who has co-founded Students for Justice in Palestine, Americans Muslims for Palestine, the Islamophobia Research and Documentation Center at UCB and Zaytuna "College". Bazian, who once called for an intifada in the US, has also contributed such gems to education such as reportedly telling a student audience to count the number of buildings on campus with Jewish names on them. (He also co-invented the scavenger hunt.)
Hatem Bazian
Meanwhile at UC Irvine, we eagerly await the inauguration of a Middle East studies department under the "objective" leadership of polymath Mark Levine, oops, LeVine internationally acclaimed musician, affiliated researcher at Sweden's Lund University, Frenchman, and allegedly an anti-Israel activist. I say allegedly because Mark once told me I was going to a have a BIG problem if I ever called him that again because it was "slanderous".
Well, we could go on and on, but we have only scratched the surface of academic excellence and objectivity here. My article is only meant to give the MLA something to strive for when it comes to such an important area of the world. Which leads me to this question: Just how wonderful would the Middle East be if there were no Israel?
Univ. Of California Threatened With Funding Cutoff
Hat tip Campus Reform
Congressman Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) has sent a letter to University of California president Janet Napolitano threatening a cutoff in federal funding if the university continues to use taxpayer money to support and protect students who are in the country illegally.
http://www.campusreform.org/?ID=8572
My, what a novel idea! I've been advocating this for years now albeit for other reasons.
Let us not forget that Napolitano's previous gig was heading up DHS, where she was a total failure. One might draw conclusions about her dedication to that job given her performance at the University of California.
If there is a moral to this story it might just be that you shouldn't use public money for illegal purposes.
"Uhhhh.......yeaaaaah."
(Private money either, actually.)

A Voice of Sanity in France: Marion Marechal Le Pen
Hat tip Vlad Tepes
This interview (in French with English sub-titles) is with Marion Marechal Le Pen, the niece of National Front leader Marine Le Pen. It was just after the truck attack in Berlin and before the attacker was identified. Ironically, she refers to the Nice attack in its similarity, which was also carried out by a Tunisian. Ms Le Pen is not only beautiful but smart unlike those currently in charge in France.

What Can We Do About the UN?
This article first appeared in Eagle Rising.
I remember when I was a young man, it seemed that only folks like the John Birch Society were talking about getting out of the United Nations. The idea seemed so absurd. Yet, over the decades, the UN has proven to be a collection of some 170 nations, most of whom are corrupt dictatorships determined to rail against Israel and the US. This week's disgraceful Security Council resolution condemning Israeli settlements with the US abstaining was for many in the US the final straw. Even more galling was the US abstaining-an unprecedented move given our tradition of shielding the Middle East's only democracy and our only true ally in that region from the forces within the UN determined to destroy her.
Now we are hearing from Israel that the US (President Obama, John Kerry and Joe Biden) orchestrated the vote. Biden allegedly called the president of Ukraine to urge a yes vote. Kerry reportedly negotiated the wording of the resolution with New Zealand so that the US could abstain. If this is all true, it is a low point even by Obama standards. But I digress.
Not to deny that the UN has done some good things, but their credibility in the US has never been lower. Respectable Republicans like Mike Huckabee are saying that it is time to get out and let them drift off to Geneva, Switzerland or some other country. In-coming president Donald Trump is openly antagonistic to the UN. But is it realistic to think that we may actually get out of the UN at this point in time?
As much as I would like to see it happen on Day One of the Trump administration, this is something that needs to happen incrementally. Aside from Israel and the US, the UN still enjoys wide support internationally. I don't hear Europeans calling to get out. (They are too busy debating the EU.) Ideally, the US would lead other democracies to form an alternative world organization made up of decent, free nations who respect human rights. That may yet come someday, but not immediately.
What is more realistic now is a large cut in US funding to the UN. Presently, we pay about 22% of the UN budget. President Trump would enjoy wide public support in cutting that contribution significantly.
Whatever good the UN has done is overshadowed by its failures. While they are busy doing the bidding of the 56-nation Organization of Islamic Cooperation and issuing resolution after resolution against Israel, the Middle East burns and Christians are being slaughtered. Most of the UN's members are corrupt dictatorships. Yet, the UN blithely puts nations like Iran, Sudan and Saudi Arabia on human/women's rights commissions with a straight face.
One thing is clear: The UN must be reformed or abandoned. More than any other country, the US has the power to begin the process of the UN's collapse. Trump will need allies, however, beginning with Europe. Unfortunately, Trump needs to build his credibility with Europe because those nations are very wary of him.
Hopefully, Trump will take steps to begin the process that will lead the UN to either reform or collapse. Cutting our contribution drastically would be a good first step.

John Kerry's Pathetic Speech
This article first appeared in New English Review.
Pathetic
It's hard to find much logic behind lame-duck secretary of state John Kerry's speech Wednesday other than pouring more fuel on the fire between the out-going Obama administration and Israel after the US abstained in the UN Security Council resolution against Israel. Kerry spent the bulk of his time condemning Israeli settlements as being a threat to the two-state solution.
What has always been a threat to the two-state solution, an obstacle really, has been the refusal of the Palestinians to accept the existence of Israel. How can you have two states living side by side when one state (Palestine) believes that the entire area ("from the river to the sea") belongs to them including Jerusalem and all its holy sites? How can you have a two state solution when Palestinians are taught since they are children that Jews are the "sons of apes and pigs" and not worthy of life? How can you have a two-state solution when Palestinian children are taught that their highest goal in life is to kill Israeli Jews? How can you have a two-state solution when Palestine would be free to control its own borders, join with terrorist entities like Iran, and use their state as a launching pad for attacks against Israel? And that's just the West Bank. We have not even gotten to Gaza yet, which is controlled by Hamas. Even the so-called "moderate" government of Mahmoud Abbas declares that an independent Palestine would not contain one Jew.
As for the Israeli claim that they have indisputable evidence that the Obama administration was involved in the development of the resolution, I agree that eventually, they will need to lay it on the table- while protecting their confidential sources. That is perhaps why they say they will share it with the new administration under Donald Trump. One thing they have learned the hard way is that this administration cannot be trusted to protect sensitive sources. (Right, Hillary?)
Even if the Israeli claims are unfounded, the act of abstaining in this disgraceful vote and permitting it to pass is beyond shameful. We have thrown our ally, Israel, a state trying merely to survive, under the bus in favor of a corrupt body (the UN) and a people who danced in the streets on 9-11. We owe the Palestinians nothing, and we still have yet to learn that an eventual peace must be between the two parties. It cannot be imposed from outside.
John Kerry, like his predecessor (Hillary Clinton) and like his boss (Obama), is a failed secretary of state who has appeased our adversaries and enemies while giving the shaft to our own interests and those of our friends. Given this abstention, Kerry's speech, and the infamous Iran deal, their claims that no administration has done more in defense of Israel is a sick joke.

Here’s a little Sharia case law: Hudud sharia is that section that deals with “Crimes against God”. That includes apostasy, blasphemy, adultery and homosexual acts. The punishment is death for all as affirmed by virtually every leading school of Islamic law. Sharia law also spells out the rights of women and non-Muslims in a Muslim society, neither of which are equal to Muslim men.
Maybe the Harvard Law school can explain how that is compatible with the US Constitution.
And animal rights?? What rights do animals have under sharia except to be slaughtered by having their throats slit and bleeding out in agony in order to be considered “halal” and fit for eating?

Hat tip Campus Reform
"One person's hate speech is another person's education."
Campus Reform has listed the top 15 most outrageous stories from academia this year, and sure enough, UC Irvine (where I taught for 18 years) made the list. That was after the College Republicans sponsored a speaking event by Milo Yiannopoulos and indicated their intention to bring him back. That was when UCI suspended the College Republicans for a year over some silly infraction involving their security arrangements. After a national outcry, the suspension was lifted en lieu of a letter of warning- pending the CR's appeal. The CR responded by saying, "What appeal?" It was a classic case of outmaneuvering your opponent.

Hussam Ayloush Takes Down Tweet, Apologizes
" Russian plane crash, eh? That must have been a TU-154 with a maximum passenger capacity of 180."
CAIR's SoCal leader Hussam Ayloush is digging himself deeper into that hole when he sent out a tweet celebrating the crash of a Russian plane carrying a musical troupe and killing all 92 aboard.
"I'm sad about the crashed Russian military jet. The TU-154 could have carried up to 180 military personnel instead of just 92!"
Now, in the wake of criticism, Ayloush has taken down his tweet and issued an apology of sorts.
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/ayloush-739603-military-syria.html
“I sent it out when I was filling gas on my road trip with my family,” he said Tuesday. “All I saw was a Russian military plane went down before it made it to Syria."
That's pretty impressive. This man must be either a great multi-tasker or a walking encyclopedia. Imagine hearing the news while filling up your tank and sending out a tweet that rattled off the kind of plane involved and its capacity. Even if you believe his claim that the initial report he heard said nothing about the civilian nature of the casualties, I seriously doubt that it gave the type of plane and its maximum passenger capacity.
If Ayloush truly believes all life is scared as he expressed in his Facebook apology, why does his organization support Hamas, a terror organization responsible for the deaths of many innocent Israeli civilians? Why does he consort with people like Yusuf al Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, who has supported the killing of Israelis and expressed his wish to die fighting in battle against the infidels? Has Ayloush forgotten when he spoke at a protest in front of the Israeli consulate in Los Angeles in October 2000 while members of the UCLA Muslim Students Association were reportedly chanting, "Death to Israel-Death to Jews"?
If Ayloush believes all life is sacred, why would he help sponsor a US speaking tour in 2014 by Syrian imam Mohammed Rateb al-Nabulsi, who advocates the killing of Jews?
Hussam Ayloush has a long history of bad associations, bad statements, and bad lies trying to cover them all up.
