That was a one-page story because the mainstream news media shut down reporting of it in very quick order. This week, the Orange County Register had a small news brief buried on a back page reporting that the shooter, Naveed Haq, had been convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Fortunately, the website "Muslims Against Shariah" (which is linked on my blog) has posted a full-blown editorial on the verdict from the Washington Times, (12-17-09) which I am cross-posting below.
--------------------------------------------------------------

"Jihadists take note: The insanity defense may not work for you. On Tuesday, Naveed Haq, a self-styled soldier of Islam, was found guilty of aggravated first-degree murder and seven other counts related to a 2006 shooting rampage in Seattle.

The prosecution successfully argued that Haq was a jihadi terrorist on a mission for martyrdom; the defense said that just proved he was crazy.

The facts are open and shut. On July 28, 2006, Haq forced his way into the offices of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle and opened fire with two semiautomatic pistols, wounding five women and killing campaign director Pamela Waechter.

Haq was a methodical killer. When the wounded Ms. Waechter attempted to flee, Haq ran her down and shot her in the head.

Haq explained his jihadist motives in detail after the shooting. He bragged about the killings in prison phone calls to relatives, tapes of which were played during the trial. "I'm proud of what I did," the murderer told his mother Nahida. "I'm a soldier of Islam." He said that she should be proud of him. "I'm a martyr now," he claimed. "I'm going to go to heaven." His mother argued with him that he was sick, that he was not in his right mind. "Yes I am," Haq said. "That's the path I've chosen. ... I did this for a reason. I wanted to be a martyr. I wanted to die on the battlefield."

Haq showed evidence of premeditation. He told police he had planned the attack over several days. He chose the Jewish Federation office as his target to make a statement about U.S. policy in the Middle East.

He obtained the pistols specifically to conduct the attack and test fired them to see which was easiest to use. A police officer who pulled Haq over for a traffic violation just prior to the shooting found him calm and collected; he was not someone who simply snapped.

Like many terrorists, Haq was seeking publicity. While holding one of his victims at gunpoint, a pregnant woman he had already wounded, the killer told a 911 dispatcher he wanted to be patched through to CNN to - among other things - demand the U.S. military pull out of Iraq.

The legal defense conceded that Haq was the shooter, but contended that a "mental disease or defect" had impaired his ability to know right from wrong, which conforms to the standard for legal insanity in Washington state. Haq is an American born to Pakistani immigrants, had been raised a Muslim but for most of his life had not taken the religion seriously. He even renounced Islam for Christianity briefly before returning to the fold with a vengeance.

Haq's jihadist orientation was central to the attack, but the prosecution initially downplayed it. At Haq's first trial in 2008, the jury did not hear the revealing prison phone tapes because prosecutors thought they were irrelevant.

The jury in that trial deadlocked over the question of Haq's intentions, and the judge declared a mistrial. The jury in the second trial heard the tapes, which seemed to have a clarifying effect on the question of intent.

Declaring "I'm a soldier of Islam" leaves little to the imagination.

The Haq case has important implications for other domestic terror trials, such as the upcoming court martial of Fort Hood jihadist shooter Nidal Malik Hasan - or even the trial of al Qaeda mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and others in New York City.

One lesson is that prosecutors should not downplay the jihadist motives behind such attacks.

Terrorist ideology is the central framework for this type of violence, and absent that context, jurors may well misunderstand the nature and purpose of these religiously motivated attacks.

Another implication is that the insanity defense may not offer an escape route for terrorists. Violent jihadists may do things that normal people consider crazy, but they are not insane. They know right from wrong, they just think that killing innocents is acceptable behavior. They are clear in their motives; they see themselves as agents of a divine power waging war on the infidel.

Given their premises, radical Islamists can justify everything from suicide bombing to Sept. 11-style mass murder.

Ignoring the jihadist impulse as a motive for attack, either because of political correctness or some other rationale, makes the insanity plea more plausible. A jihadist without the jihad is just a crazed killer.

Washington Times
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

(It should be noted here that the Washington Times is a conservative newspaper, generally looked down upon by the liberal establishment, who prefer the mainstream Washington Post. Like Fox News, the Times follows stories that the MSM prefer not to follow.)

Isn't it amazing that this bum goes into a Jewish center, shoots 5 women, killing one and he thinks of himself a some sort of soldier on the battlefield who is now going to Heaven? He thinks he has pleased God by murdering an innocent and unarmed female!

So the question begs; why is the media burying this story, as they did with the guy who ran down people in San Francisco a couple of years ago, as well as the Chapel Hill, NC rampage where a man drove his car into crowds of students? I'll tell you why. It is because the perpetrators were carrying out acts of Jihad-in the Seattle and San Francisco cases specifically targeting Jews. In this case, it takes a courageous Muslim website to fully report the story with an editorial comment from the Washington Times that condemns Jihad. How many other major newspapers wrote an editorial on the case? How is it that the libertarian-yet politically correct OC Register puts the story in a tiny news clip on a back page, while one of the few conservative newspapers writes a full-blown editorial?

More recently, the Ft Hood incident has shown the true colors of our main stream media, which bent over backwards to find an alternative theory for the shooting. "Maybe it was Pre-Vicarious-Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome"-an illness that does not exist. "Maybe he was stressed out dealing with war veterans." "Maybe...."

It was an act of Jihad- period.

The true heroes in this whole squalid period of history that we are going through and seem determined to leave to our children and grandchildren are the Muslims and ex-Muslims who have stood up to speak out and warn the rest of us. I am talking about "Muslims Against Shariah", Nonie Darwish, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Wafa Sultan and others who have put their very lives on the line to speak the truth. Yet, our leaders, our media and so many others choose not to listen to them. Nobody wants to be accused of being "Islamophobic", whatever that is defined as. Instead, they prefer to push the can down the road and abandon innocent, moderate Muslims who have immigrated to the West to escape Jihad and Shariah to their fate of having to be intimidated and controlled by the radicals who have infiltrated themselves into our midst. It is shameful that we in the West do not stand with the good Muslims who do love and appreciate our freedoms and have risked their lives to support those freedoms.

Clinton to Copenhagen- 100 Billion!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 226px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyqN8zU96EI/AAAAAAAADdI/eP77FwRsV_M/s400/clinton2final_doomsday_604x341.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416297577576261698" />
"Happy days are here again......"

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/12/17/clinton-ready-join-b-climate-aid-fund/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+foxnews%2Flatest+%28FOXNews.com+-+Latest+Headlines%29

That's right, Monopoly fans. Hillary has landed in Copenhagen and pledged 10 billion a year of our money in the name of..... just giving it away-as long as those pesky Chinese agree to something called "transparency", whatever that means.

And Nancy Pelosi is going there too talking about "jobs, green jobs and green revolutions" or some such intellectual porridge.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyqRuQUghoI/AAAAAAAADdQ/DY0PdRhn9FQ/s400/ap_nancy-pelosi2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416301725707437698" />

According to Hot Air, depending on whether you talk to Republicans or Democrats on the Hill, Pelosi has reserved either two or five Air Force jets to take her and her entire useless entourage to Copenhagen-including Charlie Rangel. In the next few days, this place is going to look like Calcutta with the overcrowding and people sleeping on the streets because the hotels are full. But who wants to sleep in Copenhagen with all the bars, restaurants and free hooker sex. Just imagine tens of thousands of delegates eating, partying and drinking. The warrant was withdrawn when it was learned that she was not in the UK as previously thought. The British Foreign Office has reacted in embarrassment as well they should.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/dec/14/tzipi-livni-israel-gaza-arrest

Livni was the defense minister last year during Israel's Operation Cast Lead incursion into Gaza. It was believed that she was in the UK, which led the court to issue the arrest warrant based on a filing by attorneys acting on behalf of a group of Palestinians.

This is a classical example of how many European judges and magistrates can go off half-cocked on their own when they think they have more jurisdiction than they do. I saw much of this when I was working for DEA in Italy, where semi-autonomous judges and magistrates could issue arrest warrants willy-nilly whenever it suited them. Many were just trying to get attention. (I do not, of course, include Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, both of whom were assassinated by the Mafia, in that category).

But I digress. At any rate, an attorney in London by the name of Tayyub Ali, representing Palestinian clients, also recently petitioned a court to issue an arrest warrant for Ehud Barak, the former prime minister of Israel.

Of course, we know that the UK, under the pusillanimous prime minister Gordon Brown, is little more than a nation that has submitted to radical Islamists in its own country. Shariah law is already in place in certain Muslim communities, which means that Muslim women and other Muslims who immigrated to escape shariah are now subject to it in the West. Forget the rights that a Muslim woman would enjoy under the British constitution. She must now answer to lunatics like Anjem Choudary and his band of un-merry followers. Now British courts are acting like international bodies to enforce their own version of how the Middle East conflict should play out.

In my opinion, incidents like these have little to do with how Europeans really view the Israel-Palestinian conflict. It is really about fear and anti-Semitism. Yes, I know the argument that criticism of Israel is not necessarily anti-Semitism and to a certain extent, that is true. However, let us not forget (the Europeans haven't) that Jews control no oil. They are not threatening the world with violence and terrorism. Their numbers in Europe (and everywhere else) are few. Of course, we know why their numbers are few in Europe, don't we? Muslims, on the other hand, are not few in numbers in Europe. In a couple of generations, they will be the majority population on the continent. Thus, the Europeans are already adapting to their future status as dhimmis in their own countries.

Then there is this inconvenient little nation called Israel with its inconvenient population of Jews that stands in the way of "world-wide peace". If only Israel would go away, then all the problems with the Middle East and their restive immigrant populations would disappear.

Sure they would.

What the submissive Euros don't understand is that the Israel-Palestinian conflict is not really about land. It is about religion. If tomorrow, every Jew in Israel were to convert to Islam, the issue would be settled. No, what the Arab world cannot stomach is having that tiny nation the size of New Jersey in its midst that is not Muslim rather Jewish.

Instead, the Euros would prefer to hide behind comfortable myths of what will bring peace-at least that is true for its leaders. The Swiss are showing us that among the people, there is bitter resentment at what is taking place.

The British government owes a diplomatic apology to Israel. They also need to rein in rogue courts that try to meddle in international affairs. Finally, they need to stand up to radical Islamists in their own country. Much more important to Brits than what Israel is doing are cases like this just reported by the Daily Mail. It concerns another one of those "honour killings" in the the UK.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1236642/Father-guilty-murdering-daughter-15-honour-killing.html

You see, the political correctness toward radical Islam is not doing Muslims in general any favors. It is only allowing them to be enslaved right here in the West.

Time's Person of the Year...Ben Bernanke???

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 275px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymHUHkrWdI/AAAAAAAADbw/QXZOi8aMUSQ/s400/ben_bernanke_crying.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416008806589749714" />
"I don't deserve this."

You gotta be kidding! Of course, Doyle got big union bucks-especially from the Wisconsin Teamsters- in his last campaign for governor.

But before I go any further, I'd better check one detail because I know you are all wondering what party he belongs to, and I honestly don't know.

I'll be right back. Here are some pictures to keep you entertained while I do my homework. You might want to consider them for visual aids for the kids in Wisconsin.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 220px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymAZikasqI/AAAAAAAADbo/OBr0r_2059o/s400/union_thugs.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416001203154367138" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 167px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymAVGEnSQI/AAAAAAAADbg/oN3NLXbnNbI/s400/seiuprotest2250_2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416001126785304834" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymAP1Yk__I/AAAAAAAADbY/cecJqDidrGE/s400/seiu.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416001036406292466" />

I'm back. Yes, he's a Democrat. Just wanted to be 100% sure before I mentioned that.

So now that the kiddies are all going to be taught about the virtues and greatness of the labor unions, I thought since I am a teacher, I would submit some suggested lesson plans.

We could start with the Teamsters Union since they seem to be Doyle's biggest supporters. I won't bore you with real ancient history, but let's go back say, half a century and review the bios of a few past Teamsters presidents.

Dave Beck was president of the Teamsters from 1952-1957.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 260px; height: 335px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymMsOmK6_I/AAAAAAAADcg/EEKJoZvmRrc/s400/beck03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416014718350060530" />

He was later indicted and went to prison for his corrupt practices.

The next president was Jimmy Hoffa from 1957 to 1967 when he went to prison.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 306px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymNRef9qDI/AAAAAAAADcw/iGvQrdEenYA/s400/hoffa.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416015358274152498" />

President Nixon commuted his sentence on condition he would not re-enter labor. He reneged on that and tried to get the presidency back from strongman Frank Fitzsimmons. In 1975 Hoffa disappeared and has never been seen since.

His successor, Fitzsimmons, was president of the Teamsters from 1967 to 1981.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 263px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymMZllloOI/AAAAAAAADcY/ETQHvKj3XTE/s400/948b6a4b167cb142_landing.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416014398104117474" />
During his tenure, he was under numerous investigations for his mob connections.

The next crook was Roy Williams, who served as president from 1981-1983. In 1982, he was convicted for conspiring to bribe a Nevada senator.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 225px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymM8pqrf8I/AAAAAAAADco/EbJR79ZPz6g/s400/6a00d8342adfcf53ef011168421640970c-800wi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416015000494636994" />
That's Williams above. (Or maybe it's Governor Doyle.)

Off he went to prison for three years.

He was followed by Jackie Presser (1983-1988) who was under constant scrutiny for his mob links (the Cleveland crime family).
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 175px; height: 208px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SymMKpRMhkI/AAAAAAAADcQ/CtdK7MrduBY/s400/175px-JackiePresser.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5416014141394290242" />

He was called to testify before the Presidential Commission on Organized Crime in 1985 and took the 5th 15 times. In 1984 and again in 1986, he was indicted on corruption charges. Somewhere along the line, it came out that he was an informant for the FBI. At any rate, his prosecution was delayed due to ill health until he died in 1988.

Then there is the UAW or the United Mine Workers union. This may not be fit material for younger age school children, but we might want to teach them about former president Joseph Yablonski. In 1969, he and his wife and daughter were murdered in their home by gunmen who broke in in the middle of the night. Turned out they were acting on behalf of one W.A Boyle who was a successor to Yablonski and wanted him out of the way. Boyle was subsequently convicted and sent to prison.

And it goes on and on. One would think that this course would fall under the Criminal Justice department of some university or that the teachers would be retired FBI agents.

But rest assured the kids will never hear about this stuff. They will hear about the early days of the union movement, you know, Samuel Gompers and all that stuff. Of course, there was a time when the unions were needed in America, but we never needed the likes of Jimmy Hoffa. We never needed unions that were in bed with organized crime. We never needed the corruption.

I suppose the kids will also get a healthy dose of the new big union on the block, the SEIU, under the "progressive" leadership of Andy Stern, a regular visitor to the White House in the past year. But they won't hear about the "Purple People Beaters", who have showed up to lend their muscle to Democrat rallies and town hall meetings, and who have on a couple of occasions beat up those "who don't go along with the program".

So teach them well all you Wisconsin teachers. After all, these are the union thugs of the future.

Good News out of Copenhagen-Deadlocks and Headlocks

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SylQNjuV1MI/AAAAAAAADbQ/hLsl11GyY1E/s400/2_61_121609_denmark01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415948220747863234" />
(Can't tell if that's inside or outside the convention hall.)

The good news coming out of Copenhagen-so far-is that the delegates are deadlocked. Lots of words, but no action. Apparently, China doesn't want to go along with the program BECAUSE IS ISN'T TRANSPARENT, and the poor countries are demanding more money from the rich countries.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,580346,00.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+foxnews%2Flatest+%28FOXNews.com+-+Latest+Headlines%29

(Hey! Have they forgotten all the foreign aid?)

So the clock is ticking, and the 20,000 delegates are doing what 20,000 delegates could only be expected to do-bicker. Not even the august presence of Al Gore and Prince Charles, the two biggest boobs on the planet, on the same stage can break the logjam.

Speaking of breaking, how about those Danish cops breaking the heads of about 1,000 protesters? Cool!
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 139px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SylNGNyyVZI/AAAAAAAADa4/X3mEYtvN2X0/s200/al_gore.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415944796066960786" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 172px; height: 200px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SylN4zrsehI/AAAAAAAADbA/kvmZiC6fCP4/s200/prince-charles.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415945665231223314" />

Hey boys! Don't let those two get away!

And what are the protesters protesting? The slow pace of the delegates inside the hall. Apparently, that cool December air in Denmark is not cool enough for them. I hear there is a follow-up conference next summer in Mexico City. A word of caution to the demonstrators; if you think the Danish cops are rough....

Hopefully, it will all be televised (hee hee).

Nonie Darwish Speaks-And We Should Listen

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 375px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SylKmr4n3NI/AAAAAAAADaw/BQWEiutVnFI/s400/nonie_darwish.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415942055365434578" />
Nonie Darwish

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SylKbdYRD7I/AAAAAAAADao/Z8Q1zXCOx9w/s400/51OyXSJJSUL__SL500_AA240_.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415941862493065138" />

Last night, I had the pleasure of attending a speech by Nonie Darwish, who is a well-known writer and lecturer on the threat of radical Islam. Darwish, who is a naturalized Egyptian-American has written two books, "Now They Call Me Infidel" and "Cruel and Usual Punishment". As a result of her apostasy from Islam and her criticism of radical Islam, Darwish lives under the threat of death. Last night, she spoke for about 45 minutes and then took questions from the audience. Below, I will mention the main points she spoke about.

Darwish spoke about her Muslim upbringing in Cairo and Gaza (her father was killed fighting the Israelis.) She told of the constant messages of hate toward Jews and non-Muslims she heard coming out of the mosques, which in her youth, she never questioned. Eventually, she immigrated to America, where she saw such a contrast in openness and tolerance as opposed to Egypt, which she described as one of the most radicalized countries in the Middle East today. She worries about what will happen in Egypt when Mubarek is gone and the Muslim Brotherhood tries to take over the nation. She also described her last trip to Egypt when she was riding in a cab with her young daughter and the driver was ranting on about Christians. Her daughter couldn't understand why the man was saying such things since she was not used to hearing them in America. Darwish also described how Egypt, once a Byzantine country with a large (Coptic) Christian population now sees its Copts persecuted and their homes burned in some areas.

Darwish went on to describe returning to America from Egypt on September 10, 2001 and waking up to the news of the attacks the next day. When she called home to friends in Egypt seeking comfort, she was astonished that everyone she called blamed the Jews and Bush for the attacks.

Darwish also spoke about shariah law, what it dictated, and why it is incompatible with the freedoms we enjoy in the West. She explained that under shariah, there was no punishment for killing an apostate. (She herself has a fatwa calling for her death.On the contrary, shariah dictates that Muslims-anywhere- must kill an apostate. Similarly, there is no punishment for an honor killing. While the punishment for killing another Muslim is death, there is no death penalty for killing a non-Muslim. If a woman is raped, she must find 4 male eyewitnesses to the incident to prove her case in court against the rapist. Darwish asked rhetorically where the outrage from Western feminists was.

At one point, she held up a xerox copy of a fatwa issued by an imam from Egypt's Al Khazar University ordering the death of an Egyptian man who had moved to Germany, married a German woman and raised his two sons as Christians. The fatwa was to kill every member of the family.

Darwish also mentioned the large number of black Americans who convert to Islam. She recounted the history of slavery that has existed and still exists in certain parts of the Muslim world (Sudan) where Muslims have enslaved non-Muslim black Africans. She asked how American blacks could embrace a religion that has historically enslaved so many of their ancestors.

Of course, Darwish also pointed out that Islam is much more than just a religion. It is a political ideology-and an authoritarian one at that- which seeks to rule over others. She also stated that Saddam Hussein never violated shariah law during his brutal rule (such a rule is right in line with shariah,) while Anwar Sadat signed his death warrant when he made peace with Israel-thus violating shariah.

Other points:

The partition of India and Pakistan in 1949 was simply because India feared that Muslims would start a civil war in the newly-independent country.

There is a town in France (Radeaux-phonetic) in which 60% of the population is Muslim. Now they are talking openly about electing a Muslim mayor and declaring the town an autonomous Muslim enclave in which all inhabitants would have to live under shariah law.

She also told of radical Muslims in the UK-where shariah is already allowed in certain areas-calling on the Queen to convert to Islam.

During the question and answer session, Darwish was asked her opinion of the current US administration. (Darwish is an American citizen and conservative Republican.) She didn't hold back. I believe the adjectives she used to describe the Obama administration were "awful" and "devastating". She added that there were officials in the White House who thought shariah law was just fine. In the Department of Homeland Security, there were devout Muslims who believe in shariah and that within the Justice Department, there were others who supported the idea of shariah.

When asked what she would do if she held the power in America, she said that she would cease all immigration from Muslim countries until terror, hatred and Jihad came to an end. (That brought applause from the audience.)

When it came to the idea of a Muslim takeover of America, she said quite poignantly, "You can laugh at the idea now, but our children and grandchildren will be fighting this battle."

In way of advice, she called on the audience not to bow to political correctness and fears of being called an "Islamophobe". She added that she is called an Islamophobe in spite of the fact that she has a fatwa on her head and that she is, indeed, afraid. She reminded us that this is not about individual Muslims, most of whom are decent people nor even about the religious part of Islam such as praying, going on the hajj or fasting during Ramadan. It is about Islam as an authoritarian and intolerant political ideology that we must defend ourselves from. She added that most Muslims are good people not because of Islam-but in spite of Islam.

After the event, Ms Darwish stayed to sign copies of her latest book, which I had just finished reading. I am not an autograph collector, but I was proud to meet her, exchange a few words and have her sign my book. It is people like Nonie Darwish, Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Wafa Sultan who are the real heroes in this struggle. When people like these are willing to put their lives on the line, then we need to listen to their message and support them.

The Photo of the Day

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 169px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/Sygw1uJ1SrI/AAAAAAAADag/sJlqRsqbI7M/s400/story_obama_senators_gi_jpg.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415632251393493682" />
l-r Chris Dodd, Max Baucus, attorney Barack Obama and Harry Reid
"I am advising my clients to plead 'not guilty'".

The New Swiss Referendum-Deportation of Criminals

In the wake of the controversial voter decision to ban further minaret construction in Switzerland, the SVP (Swiss People's Party) has launched a signature petition to vote on the question of deporting immigrants who have committed crimes.

http://www.eutimes.net/2009/12/new-swiss-referendum-to-deport-all-criminal-immigrants/

For years now, criminal immigrants have used the Swiss provision of political asylum to gain entry into the country and have badly abused their presence. It would seem reasonable that any immigrant in any land who committed a crime should be kicked out-including the US.

I must say, however, that I don't care for the picture that appears in the news story. A placard like that obviously appeals to feelings against non-whites and can only discredit the movement. I know nothing about the SVP other than they are accused of being anti-immigrant.

As I have said many times before, there is nothing wrong with immigration per se as long as the new arrivals come legally, obey the laws, assimilate and accept the values of the new country. As one who has traveled (and worked) extensively in Switzerland, I know that there are many immigrants who are deserving of staying in the country. Unfortunately, however, there are many who are not. Once they are removed, the atmosphere will be a hundred times better for the good immigrants. No longer would they have the shadow of suspicion and distrust over their heads.

Like the minaret vote, all of Europe will be watching this movement very closely.

Wolf Blitzer's Situation Room

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 329px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SygEfvae3bI/AAAAAAAADaQ/Ix_v0GO61ME/s400/Filler-1-BR816-188.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415583495263018418" />
"We have a situation! We need an ambulance to take Wolf to the hospital."

While on the treadmill today, I caught a few minutes of CNN's Situation Room with the hapless Wolf Blitzer. They should name it the Panic Room.

First, Wolf was announcing the pending landing of the world's first Boeing 787"Dreamliner" aircraft at some airport in Washington State. As he was interviewing some aeronautical expert, Wolf mentioned that it was raining in Washington and asked the expert if that would cause any problems for the landing.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SygCYQDfzpI/AAAAAAAADZw/gIsFWRuOsME/s400/aflac-duck.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415581167562772114" />

Well, yes, Wolf. If the rain doesn't stop in the next 5 minutes, everyone on that plane is doomed. Then as if that wasn't bad enough, Wolf breathlessy announced that he was cutting away to show the actual landing (and possible crash) of the 787.
Whoops.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SygDpDbUpCI/AAAAAAAADaI/LaySfM-haKQ/s400/7609.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415582555742446626" />
Yes, it was a Garuda Indonesian liner landing (or crashing).

So Wolf went to his ace correspondent, Jack (the Jerk) Cafferty, who launched in on his favorite topic, former president George W Bush and those 2 million e-mails that someone dug up.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 323px; height: 276px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SygFyLAwZAI/AAAAAAAADaY/zQK7I_feU70/s400/jack-cafferty.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415584911420580866" />
""Hey Wolf! Here's an e-mail from Keith O. in New York City. He says, "Bush sucks!"

At this point, Jack the Jerk ominously asked if the e-mails would say anything about the US Attorney firings, the Valerie Plame "outing" and some other manufactured scandal I can't recall. That led to Jackie the J's question of the day-drumroll, please:

"Will we ever get to the bottom of the Bush presidency?"-or some dopey question like that to which he added, "here's a hint-no."

Hey Jack! We have a new presidency to get to the bottom of. Oh well, I can hardly wait to see how Jack's listeners responded.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SygBLBuil5I/AAAAAAAADZg/uz4h_W0k-Ko/s400/22545434.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415579840866850706" />
Hey Wolf! Then he refers to the fact that there are children in the audience (witnessing his childish antics, no less).

Had he tried that at Fousesquawk University, my special campus police tactical unit would have dragged his sorry behind off to the campus police hoosegow. There are few if any elected officials as odious as this guy. Barron's transgressions against civility are too long to list on this humble blog. More recently, Barron has aligned himself with British goofball member of parliament George Galloway and the infamous Viva Palestina fund drive to Gaza.

Chalk up Barron's name as a nominee for the 2009 Fousesquawk Jerk of the Year Award.

Oh, did I mention that Barron is a Democrat-or had you already figured that out?

Another Al Gore Whopper

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 315px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyfvNK2T1KI/AAAAAAAADZQ/chhpHmM6ldc/s400/AlGore.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415560086465795234" />
Al Gore- whoppers and greenhouse gas

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 340px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyfSZ2a0GmI/AAAAAAAADYY/bQ4QOccSW1w/s400/bearG0205_468x551.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415528418482854498" />
Copenhagen-"Let the show go on!"

Well, good ol' Al Gore never lets us down, does he? The Arctic will be ice-free in about 5 years! Hey, who needs Hawaii when we have the Arctic? I can see it all now; sunny beaches, hot babes in bikinis, and Carona beer to cool us off. And most of all...
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 276px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyfZhY2nMZI/AAAAAAAADYo/w1m2rbW3o8M/s400/emperor-penguins.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415536244566733202" />
the friendly people. You can't make this stuff up-or can you?

Only trouble is the scientist who Gore quotes says he's full of greenhouse gas. It didn't take him long to disassociate himself from the inventor of the Internet. I mean what rational person wants to be associated with Al Gore and his insane statements?

So add this one onto the purloined e-mails and what we have is (as Marsha Clark used to say)a mountain of evidence accumulating that all this global warming, global change or whatever you want to call it is a giant man-made hoax. Only trouble is, there are about 20,000 OJ jurors in Copenhagen who are in a rush to judgement.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 315px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/Syfafj2TQnI/AAAAAAAADY4/ALgbXMJ_JXg/s400/culebra-beer-ad-3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415537312670106226" />
The Arctic-Who knew?

Adam Gadahn's Latest Hit!!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/Sybe0cjaLdI/AAAAAAAADYA/CjDLVgLHMec/s400/0_61_080507_alqaeda_video_gadahn.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5415260594558873042" />
Adam Gadahn

What do you do for excitement when you are living somewhere in the border area between Pakistan and Afghanistan? Well, you can play mind games trying to decide which country is a bigger hell-hole. Or you can make video-tapes pontificating on the evils of your own country (America) and blaming others for the spate of bombings in Pakistan that kill dozens on almost a daily basis. That's what American turncoat Adam Gadahn, who is a spokesman for Al-Qaeda, does when he gets bored. Now he has come out with more "pearls of wisdom" about who is really responsible for all the bloodshed going on in Pakistan.

http://www.themajlis.org/2009/12/12/video-al-qaedas-adam-gadahn-on-terror-in-pakistan

Gadahn really needs to sign up for one of those Toastmaster courses that teach you how to give an effective speech. I don't know about you, but I couldn't sit through the entire video-especially when you have to look at the guy all the while. Someone needs to tell him that when he tries to dress himself up to look like some fearsome Middle East radical with the scraggly beard and that headscarf with red and white doo-dads he comes across as a fat, white New York housewife trying to squeeze into a Japanese kimono. It just ain't working, Adam.

Of course, in defending the "Mujahadin" against charges of murder, he makes the point that it is forbidden to kill one innocent Muslim. Yes, but it's in that "innocent" term that confusion reins. If you are not a Muslim like Adam then you are an "apostate"-and we know what happens to them, don't we?

This naive boob, who went off to Nowherestan to play cowboys and Indians, delights in talking about the "day of reckoning" that we Americans face in the future. What he forgets-or perhaps doesn't want to think about-is his own day of reckoning, which will surely come sooner or later. In the meantime, Adam boy, try not to impregnate any goats in those caves. They deserve better than having to carry your name for the rest of their lives.

On Tiger Woods

I was always sort of a fan of Tiger Woods though I don't follow golf. Having a connection with Thailand, I thought it was great to see one who was part-Thai rise to the very top of any sport. It was also good to see one of African-American descent do so well in a sport that blacks historically have had trouble breaking into. In addition, it seemed like Woods was good guy. I still hope he can resurrect his career, but certainly he has enough money to be set for life in case that doesn't happen.

As always in America, it is a sign of our cultural decline that we devote so much attention to a Tiger Woods when there are so many other more important things going on. How disgusting is it that all these.....well, women are coming out of the woodwork to tell there stories about their relationships with Woods as they get their 15 minutes of fame and cash in. (I'd better watch my language since one of these babes is represented by the ubiquitous celebrity lawyer, Gloria Allred. This lady never misses a chance to jump in the middle of any possible legal matter involving a woman.)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 262px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyWmiZjAMNI/AAAAAAAADXw/rLWNqJ2mYBI/s400/6a00d8341c630a53ef01116888aa78970c-800wi.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414917236886352082" />
Why do you think they call her Allred?

It's not enough that trashy shows like "Access Hollywood" and "Extra" are running non-stop on this story. Now we even have......

The Race Angle (Dragnet music, maestro).
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 294px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyWnL9zKxGI/AAAAAAAADX4/r80FKiHgw9Y/s400/badge714.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414917950992467042" />

Yes, it seems that some observers out there are making an issue out of the fact that all the girls identified so far are white. Haven't we gotten past that hang-up yet? First we make a big deal of Tiger's own mixed heritage then we go bananas over the racial makeup of his bed mates. At least some of us do.

People like Washington Post writer and Keith Olbermann horse holder, Eugene Robinson, who, as is his wont, has written about this aspect of the Woods story playing psychologist as he discusses the reasons why all the girls are white.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/12/07/AR2009120702944.html

Now isn't that the dopiest op-ed you have ever read?
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 263px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyWlL857tkI/AAAAAAAADXo/Z6lExg25BHw/s400/eugene-robinson.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414915751729149506" />

Hey Eugene! When I was single, I dated across racial lines too. Even had a Thai girlfriend once. Black gals too! Whaddaya think about that, Gino? Figure that out and you may get another one of those worthless Pulitzer Prizes they hand out to talentless, but politically-correct boobs like you.

So here's hoping that Tiger and Elin can find some solitude in Sweden, patch it up and go on with their lives-minus people like Allred, Robinson et al.

Freedom Under Attack on Both Sides of the Atlantic

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyVfa3I4oCI/AAAAAAAADXg/2edNSZlE5vA/s400/ghan_narrowweb__300x450,2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414839042065342498" />
top-Copenhagen Express
bottom-Washington Express

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 385px; height: 185px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyVfRTJyKNI/AAAAAAAADXY/q-Ej0AsgauU/s400/Climate_Change_658993a.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414838877786613970" />
Protester in Copenhagen

Watching the hysteria in Copenhagen, coupled with the hysteria in Washington is like watching two trains rushing 100 mph straight at other. Those engaged in the two-ring circus know exactly what they are doing. On the one hand, the Democrats in Congress and the Obama administration are moving full speed ahead to turn America into a big government-run state. In Copenhagen, world bureaucrats are rushing pell-mell to the goal of establishing a one-world government with capitalism a thing of the past-accompanied by America as a superpower the past.

In Washington, the legions marching behind, Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi know full well that the government is incapable of running 1/6th of the country's gross national product. They know they are multiplying the national debt. They know they are tearing down the private sector brick by brick. They know the public doesn't want this government-run health care plan. They even know they are going to take a massive hit next November in the midterm elections.

They don't care. Socialism is the goal and they are going to get it done one way or another. This is the greatest chance they have ever had, and they are going for broke.

Meanwhile in Denmark, 20,000 government bureaucrats are determined to pass agreements in the next two weeks that will move the world to a one-world government. Not even the Climategate scandal out of the UK can stop them. If anything, the sense of urgency is now greater than ever. They know that the evidence is hemorrhaging that Climate Change is at best open to serious debate and at worst a massive international hoax. They know that a decreasing number of people are buying into this so-called crisis.

They don't care. All they care about are the misguided young brats marching in Copenhagen's streets, getting arrested, breaking windows and crying for "Climate Justice".

Whatever that is.

And of course, America is expected to foot the biggest share of the bill in a massive transfer of wealth from the developed world to the under-developed world. Forget about all the foreign aid we have sent to poor countries for the last several decades. It is not enough. The only thing that the delegates care about is taking more of our wealth. And make no mistake, Obama and Hillary Clinton's State Department are willing to give it to them.

And what is the best we can hope for? Well, in Washington, it apparently will come down to whether this or that so-called moderate Democratic legislator gets a big enough incentive from Reid, Pelosi et al to sell out their vote. It's a delicate balancing act, and one can only hope that the high wire is slippery enough for it all to fall crashing down-without a net.

In Copenhagen, I guess we could hoe that the speeches will last two weeks or the delegates will get tied down in bureaucracy long enough for it all to result in a resolution to meet again -in 100 years.

In the meantime, maybe we can elect some sane people to Congress-including a new president in three years. Then we can set out to get rid of this monstrosity called the United Nations.

OPM to Run Our Health Care????

If you are wondering whatever happened to that big Democratic agreement on the government health care bill that Harry Reid announced the other day-so am I. Maybe he doesn't have one after all. Now the word is that Hapless Harry is proposing that health care plans be administered by the Office of Personnel Management.

For those that don't know, OPM is sort of like the human resources department of the federal government. They oversee the health care plans of government and retired government employees. But to say that this outfit is equipped to take on the health care of the whole population is an absurd idea-sort of akin to handing over all the FBI cases over to the Bureau of Fish and Wildlife.

But then again, we are talking about Harry Reid. If that is true, I would venture that the distinguished senator from Nevada is acting like a man who has spent too much time in the Las Vegas casinos and is trying desperately to cover his losses.

And who is the head of OPM in the Obama Administration? That would be one John Barry-former aide to Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and until his nomination to head OPM, the director of..........(drum roll, please)

the National Zoo!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyTBjyVaHlI/AAAAAAAADXQ/UZfaJTgWVfo/s400/aflac-duck.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414665472557325906" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 303px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyTBfn1dvzI/AAAAAAAADXI/UV6FpZ_DbEU/s400/laughing_horse.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414665401019514674" />

That's right, folks. If this story is true, Harry Reid wants to have the former director of the National Zoo run health care insurance for you and me and 299,999,998other folks.

Pass the Tylenol.

Copenhagen Update

(Hat tip to Europe News)

The above video is an interview with Bruce Bawer, author of "While Europe Slept", by PJTV on the on-going climate conference in Copenhagen. Recently, he has been making a lot of noise about global warming. He passes himself off as an expert and has made tons of money in the process. Among other things, he has said that the earth's temperature once we get a couple of kilometres deep is several million degrees.

He has also stated that the debate over global warming is "settled science". The debate is over.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 315px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyQiWV75XYI/AAAAAAAADW4/7X0sJ56_9dI/s400/AlGore.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414490419247013250" />

Now, with the Climategate revelations coming out of East Anglia University's Climate Research Unit, Gore says it's much ado about nothing. He says the e-mails are at least ten years old, have been taken out of context, and "peer review" is the key to what should be believed.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 315px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyQivaczsQI/AAAAAAAADXA/n54RmZRFYf0/s400/AlGore.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414490849955524866" />

(Professional art work by Fousesquawk. Their letter asks her to speak out publicly about these violations and ensure that troops and arms movements and additional sanctions are carefully reviewed by the Security Council.

Contact your Senators and ask them to sign the Feingold-McCain letter by 5:00pm Friday.

In its Sudan Policy Review, the Obama administration pledged to "work to more concretely transform widespread international concern about Darfur into serious multilateral commitments." This is an important opportunity for the Obama administration to show that its commitments are more than just empty words.

I wanted to make sure you, a key activist for Darfur, had this opportunity to let the administration know that together we will hold them accountable and will continue to encourage them to prioritize Sudan.

Ask your Senators to sign the Feingold-McCain letter and tell the Obama administration to lead for peace in Sudan.

As the world debates how to address the crisis in Darfur, the Government of Sudan continues to abuse its people and flout international law with impunity. If the Obama administration does not build an international coalition to hold Bashir's regime responsible for its actions, the conflict in Darfur will persist and the people of Sudan will continue to suffer at the hands of their government.

Thank you for your activism and your support."

Sincerely,

—Mark

Mark Lotwis
Save Darfur Coalition

The link to sign the petition is below:

http://action.savedarfur.org/campaign/feingoldmccain/3dsiwiw4z7db7kee?-----

To contribute to the Save Darfur Coalition, click the below link:

https://donate.savedarfur.org/08/savedarfur/n4d4ujQSqADfi?

Interfaith Dialogue at Chapman University

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 135px; height: 138px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oOJMYL8TW6E/SyQcjfLNL_I/AAAAAAAADWQ/wFagY5t8MEQ/s400/chapman.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5414484047995678706" />
Chapman University, Orange, Calif.

Thursday night, I attended an interfaith dialogue at Chapman University, the 2nd annual such event held. There were three panelists present, Dr Marv Meyer, the head of the Chapman Religious Studies Department, Rabbi Stuart Altschuler, of the Jewish Studies Department and Dr Mohammed Zakyi Ibrahim, who teaches comparative religions at California State University at Fullerton. Dr Ibrahim was substituting for Dr Muzammil Siddiqi, who is the head of the Islamic Society of Orange County, who was suffering from laryngitis. There were about 20 people present.

The actual focus of the dialogue was the relationship between Jews and Muslims, which caused one audience member to ask why no Christian panelist was present. (Dr Myer was acting only as moderator). The question was significant because it underlined the inescapable fact that there is a clear divide between Jews and Muslims today-more obvious than that between Christians and Muslims.

The program began with Dr Ibrahim, who is a native of Ghana, speaking about similarities between Islam and Judaism. After he spoke for about 30 minutes, Dr Altschuler spoke on the same theme. Altschuler, did, however, refer to present-day enmity against Jews that exists within Islam. Altschuler is a strong proponent of interfaith exchanges and still hopes for an eventual reconciliation between Jews and Muslims.

Then the questions came from the audience. Dr Ibrahim received the most questions. I want to say here and now that Ibrahim comes across as a nice man and I have no negative information about him whatsoever. In fairness, I should also point out that English is not his first language. I must say, however, that I found some of his responses unsatisfactory.

The first question came from an elderly gentleman who asked Dr Ibrahim why we hear so many reports of religious leaders in mosques referring to Jews as "apes and pigs". This brought a long response from Dr Ibrahim to the effect that certain people had their own agendas and were misunderstanding the true religion. He, of course, disassociated himself from these expressions. He also referred to those people of ancient times who had disobeyed the laws of the Prophet Moses and were punished and seemed to indicate that these were the ones being referred to as "apes and pigs".

Note: Dr Ibrahim repeated the term "misunderstand" more than once to refer to those Muslims who express hatred toward non-Muslims. Maybe it's just me, but I am seeing that expression being used often lately to refer to Islamic radicals and terrorists.

I then followed that up with a question about the infamous hadith that speaks of trees and rocks calling out to Muslims that "there is a Jew hiding behind me-come and kill him". I asked given this hadith that perhaps these imams calling Jews such names were not misunderstanding anything after all.

Ibrahim's response was to refer to some scholar who was engaged in the study of "hadith fabrication", in other words, trying to determine which of the thousands of hadiths were factual and which were not. Again, Ibrahim disassociated himself from this particular hadith but implied that it was not a true hadith.

After about 7 questions, Dr Meyer brought the event to a close. There were so many other questions we could have asked Dr Ibrahim, but the time and the questions were limited. Many questions could have been asked about international terrorism, but I think Dr Ibrahim's answers would have been similar to the above answers he gave. Left unresolved is the question of how so many Muslims including imams and clerics could "misunderstand" the true messages of the faith.
