My Letter to UCI's New Narratives

Reference is made to my earlier posts on UC Irvine's New Narratives program. The latest event on November 16 was disrupted.

Below is a letter I have just sent to the New Narratives program challenging their refusal  to include conservative speakers as opposed to those with the same old tired grievances.

To whom it may concern,

As a former part-time teacher at UCI Ext. I noted with interest the recent disruption of the latest New Narratives event on Nov 16. I found the disruptors' behavior disrespectful and contemptible. Yet it seems that students engage in that behavior with impunity at UCI given the May 18, 2016 and May 10, 2017 incidents involving SJP. The students involved in his latest disruption could not even articulate what they were upset about.

For New Narratives, it seems to me this is a case of the chickens coming home to roost. NN is nothing more than a leftist activist enterprise. I have already inquired as to the possibility of inviting more conservative speakers with a more positive attitude about our country. I suggested people like Thomas Sowell or Larry Elder as speakers. It is obvious that such viewpoints are not up for discussion at UCI in New Narratives.

It is fine to focus on events that pertain to minorities. Why can that not include minority figures who happen to be conservative? There are black conservatives, Hispanic conservatives, etc., people who have real courage to voice their views. Why not allow them to offer a "New" perspective to your audiences?

As long as New Narratives excludes such people and refuses to provide any balance, you have no credibility.

Sincerely,

Gary Fouse
