Oh, it's technically true that the country abolished the institution in 1981, but it still exists, and nobody is being punished for its practice.
Not surprisingly, Mauritania is also a Muslim country. In fact, one of its citizens is now facing the death penalty for posting something on Facebook that was critical of the Prophet Mohammad.
