We should save this story for next Halloween. Cal State San Marcos is holding a forum on....

whiteness. And it's really scary.

"A “white beauty standard” display stated “we are studying the white hegemonic ideals of the beauty industry.” Another asked “who does whiteness say that you are,” noting “whiteness studies” is defined as “the study of the system of white dominion in our society with a focus on ideologies of white supremacy as collective, rather than white individuals.”

"One group had guests spin the “Wheel of Whiteness.” Another passed out “gentrification is the new colonialism” stickers."

Good grief. How far do you think they would get if they did this on "blackness" or  "brownness"? No wonder academia is in such disrepute. At least we can have a good laugh at it.

Unless you have kids in college and the tuition bill comes due. This is what you are paying for..

Whiteness studies: One more reason for people to stop doing anything productive, and devote time to contemplating the color of their navel.

The root problem is the notion that people are "white." That is not what people are. That is an irrelevant secondary characteristic in a rather diverse spectrum of epidermal melanin concentration.

I received a mass email written by a volunteer for something called Color of Change, who enthusiastically described his participation, then triumphantly crowed "And I'm white."

I sent back a brief reply, telling him that if he continues to choose to think of himself as "white," that is part of the problem.

(The descriptive phrase I used originated with James Baldwin, who for all you University of California at Santa Cruz community studies majors, was a well known American author of African descent.)

Why are we using the term, "people of color" when "colored people" has gone from a polite term to offensive? And what are white people-a glass of water?

Exactly. People with an epidermal melanin deficiency (EMDS) are not hollow man. We all got color.

That's right. Do you know what color my car is?

White.
