The Electoral "Revolt"

Talk about adding insult to injury. The Electoral College met and cast their votes yesterday all over the nation. Contrary to the expectations of some Democrats and Hillary die-hards, only two electors pledged to Trump (from Texas) refused to vote for him-way way short of what was necessary. On the other hand, Hillary Clinton lost four electors, three of whom voted for Colin Powell and one of whom voted for get this-

Faith Spotted Eagle, a tribal elder from South Dakota.

FAITH SPOTTED EAGLE!!!

I guess they didn't see that infomercial from those Hollywood actors appealing to their consciences.

Constitutionally speaking, if a majority of electors support someone for president, it doesn't matter that the popular vote went a different way.

Constitutionally speaking, if a majority of electors choose someone for president who wasn't even running at all, or who didn't carry a single state, that person is the president-elect.

People running strong emotions need a get a grip on this. Its not simply a numbers game. Its a system designed for a horse and buggy era, transmuted through the unanticipated structure of party politics.

But the outcome was predictable. Electors are hand-picked party hacks for the most part. Why would they vote for anyone but their party's candidate, for any outcome but the one that offers the gravy train to their own party?
