"You know Winston, we shouldn't use terms like 'Nazi', 'blitzkrieg' or 'final solution'. They might offend Germans."

News item:

Our feckless Department of Homeland Security says not to  use terms like "jihad" or "sharia". That would be offensive to Muslims.

First of all, those terms are hardly offensive to Muslims. They are scared to Muslims. Of course, Muslim leaders in the US say that jihad is a peaceful term and sharia law is perfectly compatible with the US Constitution. In the case of the latter, that is a blatant falsehood, since sharia defines the rights of women and non-Muslims are being less than men and Muslims respectively.  It also mandates death for apostasy, blasphemy, adultery and homosexual acts. In the case of the latter, jihad has two meanings. The greater jihad is the  inner struggle to be a better Muslim. The lesser jihad is fighting against Islam's enemies (non-Muslims) in battle. According a to a hadith, Those terms were defined by Mohammad himself as he returned from battle.

I suggest DHS stop worrying about its own employees use of those terms and start worrying about how those terms are being used in US mosques.
