"I want to offer my personal congratulations to the student leadership of GUPS. They have been an inspiration for me. And they have helped me when I have to tell other community groups to mind their own business. GUPS is the very purpose of this great university."
-Leslie Wong
SFSU president

A week ago, there was an ugly incident at San Francisco State University in which the mayor of Jerusalem's speech was loudly disrupted by members of the General Union of Palestinian Students (GUPS) and others. This resulted in a letter I sent to university president Les Wong in protest and a response I received from him the same day. Below is a summary of events surrounding the SFSU incident.

At the time I wrote that letter, I was under the impression that Wong was merely an ineffectual administrator who had lost control of his school. Actually, it is much worse than that. Wong is not a man who has been victimized by a student group that has used thuggish tactics (GUPS) and a radical teacher who has been their mentor (Rabab Abdulhadi) and who went on a questionable school-funded trip to the Middle East. He is acting in concert with these characters.

Below is an article from the Palestinian university of An-Najah announcing a joint partnership with SFSU-thanks to the work of Abdulhadi and mentioning Wong by name.

Cinnamon Stillwell of Campus Watch, writing for American Thinker, has more detail on this arrangement.

But it gets worse. Pro-Israel Bay Bloggers puts it all in perspective with a video of Wong speaking at a reception last year in which he praises Abdulhadi and GUPS. Keep in mind that just in the past couple of years, there have been a couple of very troubling incidents involving the General Union of Palestinian Students (GUPS) at SFSU. In 2013, GUPS students produced posters on campus that read, "My heroes have always killed colonizers". In 2014, the then president of GUPS produced a social media video that showed him holding a large knife and fantasizing about murdering Israeli soldiers. Yet in the face of all that, Wong praises GUPS as an inspiration and says they have "helped him tell other community groups to mind their own business". (He is no doubt referring to groups like the AMCHA Initiative, who have complained about the menacing acts and expressions espoused by GUPS in the above instances.)

It is clear that Wong is a large part of the problem at SFSU. It makes his statement to the student body the day after the April 6 incident a farce. He has referred to the very group that organized and carried out the disruptions-as well as the murderous expressions described above- as "the very purpose of this great university."

This man needs to be fired.
