House Unanimously Recognizes Genocide Against Christians

Public pressure has been rising through letters and petitions on Congress to formally recognize that Christians in the Middle East are the target of genocide. Today, the House of Representatives unanimously passed that recognition. It was bi-partisan.

This is an important step. As for our administration and John Kerry's feckless State Department....who knows?

Siarlys,

You missed the memo. They are actually killing Christians in the ME.

I didn't miss anything Gary. Christians are not an ethnic group.

Words mean something ... don't you teach that in your English classes? The root word of genocide is genus. Daesh welcomes anyone who embraces their own peculiar version of Islam, regardless of race, color, or national origin. Who's that Adam guy you like to write about? Daesh is happy to kill anyone who does not embrace their own peculiar version of Islam, again, regardless of race, color or national origin. They do, obviously, discriminate on the basis of creed as to who they slaughter and who they do not.

So, my objection is to sloppy use of language to assuage an emotional desire to condemn in the strongest terms. Daesh is slaughtering people because of their religious creed, which is saying quite enough, without sloppily stretching the label "genocide" to cover it, just because "genocide" has a cachet and a street cred that tells you "these guys are REALLY evil." There are many ways to be really evil. Just call it for what it is.

Nope. That's a new one on me. What is your idea-let them all be slain?

More like, the fact that Catholics and Lutherans and Presbyterians and Baptists and Orthodox kill each other shows what a murderous ideology Christianity is.

But they don't kill each other. Nor do Reform and Orthodox Jews kill each other. Nor do different Buddhist sects kill each other.

So why do Sunni and Shia kill each other?
