Brussels and Uninformed People

This article first appeared in Eagle Rising.

Juan Cole
Uninformed PhD

On Wednesday, I watched President Obama answering reporters' questions about Brussels at his joint press conference with the president of Argentina. Just as his words from the ballpark in Havana indicated the previous day, this man has few clues and little interest. He still thinks ISIS is some kind of JV team that does not merit his full attention. What he promises for the remainder of his term is more of the same-probably in decreasing doses. (Our air attacks are declining in number.)

Pretty much can be said for Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Their statements have been pusillanimous at best. If either one of them becomes president, ISIS is guaranteed another 4 years of survival and the ability to commit murder and mayhem in the West. While Clinton talks about keeping any response in line with our American values, Sanders talks about the need to improve our joint intelligence capabilities.

Ditto for the leaders of Western Europe even as their countries are overrun by welfare seekers and embedded ISIS fighters-even as their women are being gang-raped and their citizens blown up at airports, the flood continues. From Italy to Sweden, from Germany to the UK, what Europe needs is a sweeping out of these current governments. We can start with German chancellor Angela Merkel.

Here at home, the American left, particularly in our universities, acts as apologists for the terrorists in Europe. In 2014, I attended an event at California State University at Long Beach, where the featured speaker was University of Michigan professor Juan Cole. This fool is one of the country's leading academic apologists for radical Islam. During the q and a, a student asked Cole about the British jihadists, like Jihadi John, who had gone to join ISIS in Syria and Iraq. Cole took the occasion to accuse British Prime Minister David Cameron and his government of being racist Islamophobes because they had alerted the British public to the fact that some 400 British Muslims had joined ISIS , a "minuscule number" according to Cole.   Well, after 9-11, we know what 19 jihadis can do and most recently in Brussels, we have seen what 3-4 Jihadis can do. His statement was silly on its face.

But Cole and his ilk will never learn. Cole has a website entitled, "Informed Comment". In the wake this latest Brussels attack , here is a column by one of his ilk that puts the attack in "proper and informed perspective". It is written, of course, by an Oxford professor named Martin Conway. Guess who he blames for the mess in Molenbeek.

You see, folks. It is all because the Belgians have not provided proper services to the people of Molenbeek. That is why the area has spawned all these poor, desperate terrorists who have nowhere else to turn.

By the way, don't bother trying to throw in some barbs in the reader comment thread. I have already tried more than once. Juan Cole does not allow "uninformed comment" into his inner sanctum.

There is no question that the Europeans have done a lousy job with their immigration policies, which go back to the very beginning when they ignored a little idea called assimilation. Now it is too late. people are arriving every day who have no intention of assimilating or identifying with their "adopted' countries. They either seek a lifetime of welfare or seek to commit mass murder. Europe's governmental leaders have no clue. Likewise, our own president has no clue.

Neither do people like Juan Cole and Martin Conway.

Islam is to terror as rainfall is to floods.
If our leaders don't understand this we are destined to have the same problems as Europe.

Daesh is in sharp decline. It is by no means dead, but the recent attacks are the desperate flailings of a dying beast, not the triumphant advance of a confident new ruling class. One could even argue that President Obama's approach is showing results.

Really? Wait until the first "Syrian refugee" in America kills 30 Americans. That is results!

One can argue absolutely anything.

I think elwood has adequately responded to Gary's homicidal speculation.

Gary will be so happy if a Syrian refugee kills 30 Americans, because it will feel so good to say "I told you so."

Gary will be SO happy if a "Syrian refugee" kills 30 Americans. It will feel SO good to say "See, I told you so" over 30 dead bodies.

Gary Fouse said...

Happy no. But my conscience will be clear in saying I told you so. Will Obama's concience be clear when it happens?

Siarlys--Sorry, I was talking about your speculations/arguments, not Gary's.

Siarlys Jenkins said...

elwood, you must be mistaken.

elwood p suggins said...

Not hardly.

Siarlys Jenkins said...

WEre you not mistaken then, or are you not mistaken now? :)

elwood p suggins said...

Siarlys--I have been mistaken exactly once, a long time ago, when I thought I might be wrong about something and it turned out that I was right after all.

Gee elwood, you're more perfect than I am. I am wrong once every blue moon, occasionally twice.
