This is the Whittaker Chambers syndrome. Tortured souls attach themselves to some image of some phenomenon or ideology, not out of commitment to the common good, but because it seems a fulfilling vehicle for their own demons. It could be Islam, Communism, Fascism, born again Christianity, Aryan Nations... the motivation is not the teaching but being part of something and having A Cause to wrap their own psychoses in.

Same with Charles Manson. Nobody blamed The Beatles for the murders he committed, nor even Black Nationalism, and not what passed for left-wing revolutionary politics at the time. He was just nuts. Whatever line he talked, it was still his own inner demons motivating him.

The Communist Party should have known better than to take on a nut job like Chambers, just like they should have known better than to take on anybody black who walked in -- sincere black communists could recognized a black FBI informer a mile away, but white party leadership just fell all over themselves to welcome the new Negro worker comrade. And when Chambers found his personal demons could be better satisfied by switching sides and wreaking havoc on his former comrades, he did that too.

Watch, after ten years in prison this convert will have converted to Roman Catholic, or Orthodox Jew, or Pentecostal Protestant... and he'll still be nuts.

Remember... converts are often a bit like ex-smokers, except more dangerous.

What you are ignoring is that we have a trend here. Aside from Charles Manson nobody interpreted that Beatles album as dictating murder and mayhem.

No, any more than I would call you a secular Christian.
