Israel-Bashing Event at UC Riverside

On October 22-23, the UC Riverside Department of Ethnic Studies, assisted by a plethora of Israel-hating organizations like Jewish Voice for Peace, will be hosting a two-day seminar devoted to the idea that their free speech is under attack.

"Conference sponsored by: UC Riverside Departments of Ethnic Studies and Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at UCR; UAW 2865; California Scholars for Academic Freedom; Palestine Legal; American Muslims for Palestine (AMP); Palestinian American Women's Association (PAWA); Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) LA-OC-IE Chapter; Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP); International Jewish Anti-Zionist Network (IJAN); LA Jews for Peace; Friends of Sabeel-Los Angeles; Friends of Sabeel-Orange County; Jews for Palestinian Right of Return."

Need I say more? This conference is being organized by UCR professor David Lloyd. The last time I saw him, I was listening to the propaganda of Omar Barghouti, a Palestinian co-founder of the Boycott, Divest and Sanctions movement against Israel. When, during the q and a, I asked when UCR would bring in someone who might speak in defense of Israel to provide some balance to their student audience, Lloyd termed the question, "preposterous". When is balance preposterous?

So now Lloyd has assembled an all star team of academic Israel-haters who are going to tell their audiences that their free speech is under attack.

Under attack from what? They dominate the discourse  on campus and have for several years, if not decades.

I strongly suspect that this event is a reaction to the recent forums held by the UC Regents in their struggle to come up with a statement of principles on intolerance. I recently attended and spoke at the UC Regents meeting at UC Irvine (public forum) and am slated to speak in the public forum being held at UCLA on October 26. In short, the need to come up with a statement is a response to the repeated complaints of anti-Jewish activism on UC campuses on behalf of the Palestinians. Jewish students in the UC system are under attack from pro-Palestinian activists, and the university has swept it under the rug for years in spite of repeated complaints. Now there is pressure to address the problem.

Hence the professorial crybabies are coming together at UC Riverside.

This claim does appear to have about the same credibility as the report that a Polish military detachment invaded Germany in Sept 1939.
