The Bangkok Attacks: A Thai Editorial

Two suspects are in custody in the Bangkok bombings of two weeks ago. Their true identities are as yet unestablished, but one suspect appears to be a Middle Eastern/Turkish man while the other may be a Chinese Uighur, a restive Muslim minority in China. Other suspects are suspected to be Turkish.

In the below op-ed in the Bangkok Post, Nopporn Wonganan tries to put the motive in perspective since it appears there is a connection to the recent deportation of over 100 Uighurs from Thailand to China in July.

For several years now, Thailand has been fighting against a Muslim terrorist uprising largely based in the South. Now they appear to be caught up in the Uighur conflict in China.
