Israel-Palestinians: It's Not About Religion?

Hat tip Investigative Project on Terrorism

The pro-Palestinian crowd in the US and on our campuses insist that the conflict is not about religion. It is about oppression and occupation, they say. They are not against Jews, only the state of Israel and Zionists (according to them).

The Investigative Project on Terrorism has posted some very disturbing comments coming out of Mahmoud Abbas and a group called the International Union of Islamic Scholars calling for Muslims in Jerusalem to rise up against Israelis and liberate the Al Aqsa mosque. In the words of Mahmoud Abbas (our negotiating partner), it is necessary to keep "the Jews' filthy feet" out of the Al Aqsa mosque. Disturbing comments, but not surprising.

Even today at the University of California regents conference, I listened to pro-Palestinian folks explain that theirs is a protest against a state (Israel) not a religion.

It is about religion to the people who initiated the BDS movement, the intifadas and the International Solidarity Movement to name a few. They are in the Middle East, but their tentacles have spread to Europe and North America. The fact is that the Arab world will never tolerate a Jewish state in their midst. That is a fact that the Jewish supporters of the Palestinian cause have seemingly failed to grasp.
