Boston Globe and LA Times Plead For Tsarnaev's Life

"His defense has already made a good case that he does not meet the exceptionally high standards for a federal execution."
-Boston Globe

Now that the proceedings against convicted murderer Dzhokhar Tsarnaev enters the penalty phase, two reliably liberal newspapers are editorializing that he should be spared the death penalty. Even if you believe out of principle that the death penalty is wrong, these two articles go over the line when it comes to bleeding hearts. The LA Times even states that Tim McVeigh should not have been executed.

These two op-eds do not deserve respect for principled opposition to the death penalty. They deserve only derision.

The Boston Globe and L.A. Times plead for Tsarnaev's life sentence, instead of the death is no surprise. That is, until the loved ones of the writers get their loved ones blown up by an Islamist bomb. That would be the test. I know this is a harsh statement, but I cannot think what the loved ones of the victims of this Islamist death dealer would think.

Well Gary, your closing remark sounds a lot like what the jihadis say about "freedom of expression."

As to the question of execution, if I were on the jury, I would probably lean toward life in prison, unless its true that he seemed proud of what he did, in which case I might vote for death.

If he's executed, I won't be staying awake worrying about it. I save my sympathy for more deserving characters like Karla Faye Tucker. But I don't indulge in knee-jerk derision over the fact that some people say something different.
