UC Berkeley Professor in Hot Water for Mentioning "Black on Black Crime"

Hat tip College Insurrection and Competitive Enterprise Institute.

UC Berkeley professor Steven Segal is in trouble at his school because he brought up the subject of black on black crime in his class during a discussion of "Black lives matter".  His remarks drew complaints from some students and have been condemned by the dean of the School of Social Welfare (whatever that is) Jeffrey Edelson.

I don't get it. How does a professor raising the issue of black on black crime (which is real, by the way) make students feel "unsafe"?

Don't get me wrong. I have raised the same issue in regards to anti-Semitic hate speech on campus which has made many Jewish students feel unsafe. However, I am not talking about some professor saying  something about Jewish on Jewish crime or even criticizing the policies of Israel. I am talking about genuine incidents of verbal and physical intimidation that Jewish students across the nation have experienced at the hands of the pro-Palestinian bullies.

Such is clearly not the case in the matter of Professor Segal.

Professor Segal has obviously offended the liberal, politically correct gods at Berkeley. And now a complaint has been filed with the Office for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination, no doubt an ominous bureau that strikes terror into the hearts of timid professors afraid to say the wrong thing. (I'll bet the officials all wear trench coats and dark sunglasses.)

This case merits following especially since Berkeley considers itself the birthplace of free speech in academia.
