Update on the Outing of that CIA Station Chief in Afghanistan

It has been announced that the White House is launching an investigation into who in the White House was responsible for outing the CIA station chief in Afghanistan during President Obama's visit to that country.

I am informed from my secret source in the White House that the President is outraged, and that he will issue a statement that the White House will get to the bottom of it and make sure it never happens again.

No word on yet about any appointment of a special prosecutor.

It was an error within the military chain of command, supplying the list to the White House. Does it take a "special prosecutor" for the military to discipline the errant individual?

Gary--better stop holding your breath while waiting for appointment of that special prosecutor here or anywhere else by this bunch of incompetents.

Thanks Elwood, I was about to burst.

Siarlys,

I was not suggesting that someone should go to jail for this. I was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of those who made such a big deal of valerie Plame, who was sitting in Washington drawing lines connecting circles and are not silent now. It didn't take a special prosecutor either when Richard Armitage of the DOS came out and stated that it was he who had inadvertently outed Plame. Yet the "investigation" went on for two years.

Was Valerie Plame really who she/they claimed she was, or was it all politics?

Valerie Plame was not operating overseas under any cover. She was writing intelligence reports at CIA Hqs. Early in the investigation of the leak, Richard Armitage, a high-ranking State official revealed that it was he who had inadvertantly revealed her ID. Nevertheless, the Special prosecutor continued the investigation for 2 years and ultimately indicted Scooter Libby.

Outing Valerie Plame was a deliberate retaliation against her husband for writing an accurate criticism of administration policy. Nobody has alleged the slightest trace of such motive or decision here.

I think the point that was being made is that it was Plame who arranged for her husband, Joe Wilson to get the assignment to Niger.
