Hat tip Jihad Watch and Blazing Cat Fur

Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks, who has been under Islamic death threats for years over his Mohammad cartoons, narrowly escaped being murdered today in Malmö. A report in German from Der Standard. AT is linked by Jihad Watch.

Vilks was giving an interview to a reporter from Der Standard AT when the man entered the gallery holding a red suitcae and stating he wanted to show Vilks some works of art. Vilks' bodyguard asked him to display the contents of the suitcae, at which time a firearm was discovered and the man was overcome.

Blasphemy (by anyone) is punishable by death under (Hudud) Sharia law. It applies to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. It is enforced in countries like Pakistan. What is really outrageous is that some Muslims living in non-Muslim countries (like Sweden) think they can enforce it there as well.

Update:

It appears the "assailant" was really someone wanting to show Vilks some art, but the bodyguard reacted to the perceived threat in a decisive manner as you can see.  The man is identified as 73-year-old Bengt Andersson.

Murder (by anyone) is punishable under Swedish law. What more needs to be said?

Loved the comments after the article. Looks like they are finally getting fed up with the ROPMA.
