Belgium: Assimilation in Reverse

Hat tip Vlad Tepes and Gatestone Institute

As the old saying goes, "When in Rome, make the Romans do as we do."

That what Belgium has decided, at least in the French-speaking Wallonia region of the south, where they are changing the names of their religious holidays so as "not to offend others". Soeren Kern has the report for the Gatestone Institute. You will not believe this.

What's next-banning that trappist ale?

This would be hysterical if it weren't so incredibly scary. I can easily see the draft being read as part of a SNL comedy skit. However in reality this is ludicrous. It not only tramples freedom of speech, but seems to try to regulate thought. Do they have similar laws for other religions? Will mind police start questioning children, friends and neighbors about private conversations on Islam? Sound familiar?

When news of this broke, there should have been a huge public outcry, but I don't see any evidence of that. Guess people are afraid of being arrested if the law passes.

Europe does not have a first amendment as we do. You can be prosecuted for so-called hate speech even for a frank discussion of Islam. Do the research on Geert Wilders in Holland, and Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff in Austria. Check out the Orgnization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) within the UN and their efforts to have the UN make member nations pass "defamation of religion" laws to criminalize criticism of Islam.
