Dear Abby

"Dear Abby,

I am a college football player who fell in love on-line with a girl who died of leukemia, only she didn't really die because........

What should I do?"

Manti Te'o

Dear Abby died unfortunately before she could help Manti out..

Ah, the childhood memories. When I was a kid of about 10-11, I guess, I wrote a letter to Dear Abby in the LA Herald Express, which was the city's 2nd fishwrap after the Times. It was all a joke (I used to do these things when I was a kid.) To be accurate, it may have been Ann Landers I sent the letter to, but judging by the linked article, I think it must have been Abby. It went something like this:

"Dear Abby,

I am 15 years old and just learned that I got my girlfriend pregnant. Now she says if I don't give her 5 dollars, she will tell my parents.

What should I do?"

Believe it or not the Herald Express (which you may have guessed by now went out of business long ago) actually published it in the column with Abby's retort. That went something like this:

"It takes two to tango. Nice try, but can't you do better than this?

You see, folks, unlike those liberal pin-heads at the Huffington Post, this writer brings real life experiences to the table.

If I do say so myself.

Abby gave good advice and bad advice. Her advice changed over time as society did. The one thing she did spout was Common Sense. A commodity that is lacking today.
