An American Muslim Speaks Out on Religious Persecution in the World

Zuhdi Jasser, an American Muslim physician of Syrian descent, is outspoken in his opposition to Islamism (political Islam). In this piece he states unequivocally that the US Government must take a stand for religious freedom world-wide.

It may be true that President Obama and Secretary Clinton are working behind the scenes on this, but I feel this is a matter where the US should be standing up publicly and speaking out for human rights. Are we not supposed to lead the way for freedom? By the way, where is the UN amid all this? Where is the great human rights activist, born-again Christian Jimmy Carter?

How sad that the so-called mainstream American Muslim organizations like CAIR, MPAC, ICNA, ISNA and MAS have little or nothing to say on this.

I invite the reader to check out Jasser's web site, which is linked on this site, American Islamic Forum for Democracy, as well as American Islamic Leadership Coalition, of which he is a member (also linked).

I've heard this "working behind the scenes" refrain before. It goes along with "everything that can be done is being done."

In reality, nothing effective is being done.
