Benghazi: It Will Take Those Who Wear the Uniform to Step Up in the Hearings

With David Petraeus set to testify tomorrow on the whole Benghazi mess, I am looking for those who are affiliated with the military and intelligence (CIA) to step up, do the honorable thing, and testify truthfully about Benghazi. I expect most of those who have only worn suits (or pant suits) to lie.

Petraeus is in a bad situation. He will have to address questions revolving around his affair with Paula Broadwell as well as any connections with Jill Kelley-who may be another scandal brewing in herself.

Petraeus will also have to explain when he was confronted with his affair and by whom. Did it have any influence on his briefing to Congress on Benghazi on September 14, in which he repeated the protest-video line?

Was it he or one of his CIA subordinates who gave faulty information to Susan Rice, which she used as talking points on her round of TV interviews 5 days after the attack?

What was the CIA doing on 9-11 when he was the director? Keep in mind that the only personnel who responded to the attack were CIA contractors, both at the annex in Benghazi and those who came from Tripoli. What does he know about any commands (to the military) not to go directly to Benghazi?

There is little doubt that Petraeus knows where the bodies are buried either first-hand or from being told by others. In spite of any past failings on his part, I still believe that honor will prevail and Petraeus will tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. That will go a long way to restoring his reputation. Anything less and his reputation will be stained forever.

In my view, these hearings will come down to the words of our military and intelligence people vs the words of the suits (and pant suits) of those who are trying to cover up their sorry performance in Benghazi-both before, during, and after the attack.
