"Shame on you, Barack Obama."
As David Axelrod tries to shift the blame away from the White House regarding Libya, the State Department isn't so ready to be the fall guy (or gal).
Regardless of who is telling the truth, it is disconcerting to see different parts of the administration trying to blame the other for the ineptitude that led to the attack on our consulate in Benghazi and deaths of 4 Americans. It the very least, it points to an administration that doesn't talk to each other on the most critical issues-affecting life or death issues for our people serving overseas.
It is pretty clear that State is guilty of ignoring requests for enhanced security in Benghazi. It is also pretty clear that State and the White House gave out false information about the attack in the days afterward. Now we have the spectacle of State, the White House and the intelligence services all telling a different narrative.
With the debates now transitioning to foreign policy, this should be like shooting fish in a barrel for Mitt Romney. President Obama can now only hope someone changes the subject. It is obvious the media is playing ball with the administration on Libya as they try to run out the clock to the election. It is up to Romney in the last two debates to force the issue. As for moderators Candy Crowley and Bob Schieffer, they can play a huge role if they simply ask Obama why there is such confusion and contradiction in reporting the events to the public and specifically who sent UN Ambassador Susan Rice on to the Sunday talk shows to tell the public that what happened in Benghazi was a spontaneous protest over a video that got out of control.
But will they? If they don't, that will be a big part of the story on the debates.
