Persecution of Coptic Christians Continues in Egypt

in the 1980's I studied US foreign policy with emphasis in the Middle East.
One of my professors who taught these courses was an American studying attending a university in Cairo in the 1960's.
Even then Coptic christinas in Egypt were randomly beaten because they were Christians.
My professor told our class he saw an Egyptian muslim walk towards a known Coptic Christian who was just standing at a street corner and beat him senseless.
My professor said no one came to the aid of this Coptic christian and the police looked on.
Family members of the beaten man took him off the street.
