"We will leave no stone unturned. We will not rest until every single person, no matter who they are, are brought to justice."
-Elijah Cummings (D-MD)
So much for transparency and openness. Now President Obama has exerted executive privilege over the documents relating to Fast and Furious as the House Oversight Committee moves already with its contempt process against Eric Holder.
This can only serve to confirm long-standing suspicions that the White House was, indeed, involved in Fast and Furious. This helps explain why ATF agent-in-charge in Phoenix Bill Newell was communicating directly with White House official Kevin O'Reiily about Fast and Furious.
Of course, one has to ask the question: What does executive privilege have to do with Eric Holder and the Justice Department? It applies to the president, does it not? It would only apply if, indeed, the president was involved in Fast and Furious-or its cover-up.
This takes Fast and Furious to a whole new level. Can anyone doubt that those tens of thousands of documents that Holder is so desperately trying to hold on to incriminate him, his aides and the White House itself in the formulation of Fast and Furious and its cover-up in the aftermath of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry's death?
And where is Janet Napolitano, who lost two of her agents to Fast and Furious-involved weapons? Why is she silent? It is because her agency was involved in the Fast and Furious task force. At the very least, Napolitano is involved in the cover-up-acting against the interests of the families of Terry and Jaime Zapata as they try to learn how their sons were lost due to this criminal scheme that corrupted the entire federal law enforcement apparatus.
And now this corrupt president, jumps in-Johnny-on-the-spot to exert executive privilege to protect his attorney general.
And why does Obama stand by Holder, when he clearly should demand his resignation or fire him? He has to. Holder knows the secrets will turn on him if thrown under the bus, and Obama knows it.
And shame on Elijah Cummings for his statement.
"No stone unturned?"
