Michelle Begs for 3 Bucks

You have to wonder who is sitting in the White House boiler room writing this material. Here is the latest e-mail I got from "Michelle Obama".
"Friend --

Every night in the White House, I see Barack up late poring over briefings, reading your letters, and writing notes to people he's met."

 "Shhhh. Don't wake up Michelle."

"He's doing that for you -- working hard every day to make sure we can finish what we all started together."

"This week, I need you to have his back.

Will you donate $3 or more to support Barack before Saturday's critical fundraising deadline?

Thank you.

Michelle"

Why is it I find these appeals for money from the First Family extremely tacky?

Could you see Jackie or Lady Bird doing anything like this?

This stuff will work for me, once my new job starts and I have a few paychecks in the bank. It doesn't work for you because you don't support Barack Obama anyway.

But don't feel bad they have you on their email list. Probably Lance listed you as a good friend they should share the emails with.

I've been getting calls every day from the Romney campaign, mostly playing tapes of the most off-the-wall live sound bytes Rick Santorum has been guilty off. They have lots of material to draw from, but I've already made up my mind to vote for Ron Paul.

He'd make a terrible president, but he's the only honest Republican running, and, I agree with him about half the time. It's the other half that worries me. So in the fall, I will vote for Barack Obama, but I'd love to see Ron Paul replace Biden in the #2 spot. Call it the National Unity ticket.

As I recall, Monica Lewinsky's father got a solicitation letter from the Clinton legal defense fund.

Siarlys,

Glad to hear you are working again.

A misleadingly snide remark Gary. I haven't had a full time position as employee of employer in the private sector since July 2009. During the interim, I have received no public assistance, nor unemployment compensation. I have supported myself on a variety of free lance, short term part time, and interim jobs, including guiding tours on a pumpkin farm, writing for several reference works, seasonal package delivery, teaching, tutoring, and yes, I did get a few months on the census, with a perfect test score and a referral from my old union. Just what a conservative like you would have anyone out of work do, to avoid being a burden to the taxpayers, right? Oh yes, I've been paying some taxes too.

Siarlys,

It was not meant as a snide remark. I am truly glad you are back to work. Sorry you took it that way.

Gary--you gotta remember, Siarlys gets a little touchy/testy now and again. I would also honestly congratulate him for apparently being back to full-time work if that is what he wanted to do.

I would also commend him for having received neither public assistance nor unemployment compensation, but I certainly would not have dissed him for doing so on a temporary basis, that is what the programs are there for. It is the permananent party loafers/freeloaders that, in my view, constitute the major problem in this regard.

Siarlys, remember that some of us, maybe most of us, have also held "odd jobs" (whatever we could get) at various times in our lives. I have personally shoveled manure (both chicken and cow, a lovely job indeed), been a janitor (yes, to include cleaning toilets and urinals and swamping out public restrooms, which our children seem to be above, according to some), built fence, baled hay,cut firewood, etc. You are not alone out there.

Well Gary, I was smiling the whole time I typed (never have gotten the hang of using emoticons), but it did sound like you were implying that only someone who wasn't working would have inclination or time to offer a point of view different from your own.

I am happy to accept your good wishes and those of elwood suggins.

I think we need to structure the unpleasant jobs that nobody wants to do but everybody wants done so that they are done for five years or so by people in early adulthood, but do not become anyone's lifetime career. They could even have substantial scholarships for higher education attached (for those who stick it out).

The alternative is, as each generation that didn't want their children doing what they had to do sends their children on to "better" jobs, we have to import a new set of immigrants willing to do the jobs that the children are not taking on as their parents retire.
