Is Chris Matthews "Uppity"?

"Chris Matthews, you've got a weak show."

Chris Matthews arrogantly continues to believe that any white voter who doesn't support President Obama must be doing so out of racist ideology. Daily Caller is highlighting Chris this week as he takes Rush Limbaugh to task for using the word, "uppity" in connection with the booing of Michelle Obama and Jill Biden when they appeared at a NASCAR race. The below article has links to the Matthews "Hardball" segment, as well as an audio of the Limbaugh comments.

Of course, the word, "uppity" does have a certain racial connotation to it when it comes to African-Americans, and it isn't pretty. One might argue, however, that black conservatives have gotten similar treatment from other blacks and white liberals, Herman Cain and Clarence Thomas, for instance.

One can argue the latest Limbaugh controversy by claiming that the overall context of his remarks explains what he meant by "uppity". He certainly gave enough examples of the imperial manner in which the Obamas have resided in the White House. Or one might argue that Rush makes a practice of carefully walking up to the line without actually crossing it, just to get his enemies' collective goat. Surely, Rush, who is a self-educated wordsmith, knows the various connotations of the word, "uppity".

Whatever Matthews thinks of Limbaugh or anyone else who is not as enamored of Obama as Matthews is, he is out of bounds to try and attach Limbaugh's use of the word to anyone else. There are countless reasons for people in this country to oppose Obama. To blame it all on white racism is wrong, both factually and ethically. It is also arrogant.

There are countless combinations of almost everything in the human species. My best friend's mother LOVES NASCAR, and Obama.

The treatment Thomas and Cain have gotten from the professional black coterie is not covered by the word "uppity," on either end. "Uppity" means to reach for something you are qualified to do, when you're s'pozed to be happy picking cotton. Rush Limbaugh doesn't know what it means either. That, true enough, doesn't mean that anyone who doesn't support Obama is a racist. Most racists oppose Obama, but that is a different statement.

John Stuart Mills explained the structural difference (are all you English language professors listening) when he observed "While it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative."
