Dennis Prager's Common Sense on Israel

Radio talk show host Dennis Prager has a series called Prager University. In this 5-minute piece, Prager makes more sense on Israel that you will get taking 4 years of Middle East courses at some university.

So, there are radio talk show hosts with Ph.D's -- of course, two thirds of the SS had Ph.D's too. No, Prager is not a Nazi. He's telling a good part of the truth. The part he leaves out is what makes this so difficult to solve.

Israel missed the boat in 1967. The west bank territory they took back from Jordan had been designated by the UN in 1948 as the Arab part of Palestine. In 1967, they could have announced "we have liberated occupied Palestine from occupation by the Jordanian monarchy," and invited the inhabitants to form an independent government, under the protection of the Israeli army.

Prager is correct with regard to the surrounding Arab nations. Unfortunately, to remove the excuse those nations, and others not directly bordering on Israel, have for continued belligerence, some semblance of a peaceful life needs to be arranged for those living in the West Bank, if perhaps not Gaza for now.

Popular culture is contrived. If life was peaceful in Jericho and Nablus, everyone had work, got out to eat, had cable in their homes, they wouldn't love death. Hamas leadership might, but the people they claim to fight for wouldn't.

I can't resist adding, I like that map, showing Israel in BLUE and all the surrounding Arab states in RED. That should have special meaning to Americans mesmerized by Mainstream Media color-coded maps.
