Hillary "Lays Down the Gauntlet"

Hillary Clinton and the international community

"We'll get right on it."

Madame Secretary (Hillary Clinton) is still flying around the world (anything to keep her out of Washington). Yesterday, she was in Seoul, Korea telling the world that (the world) must respond to the "unacceptable provocation" of North Korea (They sank a South Korean ship recently, in case you didn't hear.)

"This was an unacceptable provocation...and the international community (village)has a responsibility and a duty to respond."

Meanwhile, back at the UN......

"We will now hear from the distinguished ambassador from Sudan on the issue of the racist, genocidal state of Israel....."

Gary, please specify what you would like the world to do to North Korea. An obvious measure would be to sink a few North Korean submarines. I don't know all the pros and cons of that, but it would certainly be morally justified. Perhaps it would be a good idea to simply invade North Korea and knock off the whole regime. But that depends on whether his army is sufficiently demoralized that they wouldn't really fight, and the civilian population sufficiently open to being "rescued" that they would cooperate with an invasion. Let's put some proposals on the table.

Ok Siarlys,

I'll venture an opinion.

First of all, the next Korean war cannot be fought like the first Korean war. The N Koreans should know that we have our weapons pointed right down their throats if they attack S Korea. That means daisy cutters that will drop on N Korean troops if they attack.

Yet, I am fully cognizant that the N Koreans can incinerate Seoul by the time we wipe them out. I don't want to see that happen because I care about the Korean people. My Korean students are far and away my favotites over the years teaching ESL students.

Hopefully, Kim Jong Il will die soon and a change will come to N Korea with a war being averted. Unfortunately, we are dealing with an unbalanced leader in Kim Jong Il. We must be committed to defending S Korea.

Gary, that's a sensible overview, covering a range of options, from those we must be prepared for if necessary, to the unfortunately more prudent approach given that we don't want Seoul incinerated. Now, what was the problem with Hillary Clinton's position?
