UN Womens' Rights Commission Welcomes IRAN!

If you still think the UN has any useful role to play in the world, consider this: The UN-by acclamation-has put Iran on the Womens' Rights Commission!!

Without a peep from the United States!

Womens' rights in Iran?

Neda Agha Soltan

Shot to death for protesting on the streets of Iran

Woman being stoned to death in Iran for "adultery"

And this country is now on the UN Womens' Rights Commission??!!?

Where is the National Organization of Women asking why the US didn't object to this? I don't see one mention of this story on the N.O.W. website.

Maybe this will force them to address their horrible stance on women's rights? Maybe? Maybe? (Trying desperately to make some sense of something so senseless here.)

Maybe next they can put Ireland on the Snake Safety Commission.

Don't be naive, Lance.

I hope you noted that my tone didn't exactly indicate any genuine hope.

Something bothering you Lance? Is Obama's halo tarnishing?

This is the best example so far of Obama's foreign policy.

What the hell? Just because I don't find fault with EVERY...SINGLE...THING Obama does (including a lot of stuff that's completely made up and/or exaggerated) that doesn't mean that I think the guy has a "halo". There's plenty that I don't like about him - like his "Race to the Top" program, for instance.

Our organization (Mission Free Iran) is holding the feet of NOW, Feminist Majority, and Code Pink to the fire. House Resolution 1371 has echoed our demands to condemn the ascension of the Islamic Republic to the UN Commission on the Status of Women, and to actively work to remove the regime from the Commission.

I have asked each of these organizations twice now what their position is on HR1371, and none of them have responded. They will be held accountable for their refusal to stand up for women's equality.

Please feel free to join us in demanding that these organizations take a position on HR1371:
Feminist Majority: feedback@feminist.org
Code Pink: info@codepinkalert.org.
NOW's email form is here: http://www.now.org/comments.html Ask them about their position on HR1371.

I'll do better than that, Maria. I will make your letter a post. Thank you for your efforts.
